The Garden Cafe is part of the Stepping Stone Spa & Wellness Center on Darling Hill Road, the most beautiful stretch of road in all of New England, if you ask me. Which is why you MUST eat outside if you visit the Garden Cafe. The view is half the fun.

The food is unique, yummy, and super healthy, and the menu changes a lot based on what's in season and what's available locally. One night, I had a pear, goat cheese, and bacon sandwich that was amazing. Awesome polenta, veggies, and salads. Really tasty, juicy burger. One of the people in my party said that the steak was tough, but I think it just has a different texture because they use local grain-fed meat. In any case, the offending steak was taken off the bill without question.

The cook often walks outside to pick herbs from the garden (right next to the outdoor seating area) and asks customers how their meals are. It's nice if you like that kind of thing.

The one downside to this place is the small portions. Maybe it's because the cafe is part of a spa and wellness center, but they certainly want to make sure you don't eat too much! The two times I've been here, I've left hungry. You can certainly order apps and extras to pad your feel, but it'll cost you. The prices are absolutely reasonably, but considering the small portions they seem a bit high. The one that does not come in small portions is the wine. Yay! Plus it's organic and reasonably priced.

Parting tips: 1. The spa offers a massage and lunch special, and it's a really good deal. 2. The cafe closes in the winter (after mid-October). Double-check details on their website.
