We stayed in one of the rooms in a side building. It had a strong potpourri smell and had stained carpeting, perhaps the sent was trying to cover something up. I should have tried to change rooms, but thought they were full. The breakfast was good, although the tea just grocery store quality. The staff was helpful, even printed out hiking maps.

Room Tip: Try not to stay in annex.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We appreciate your kind comments about our high level of service and our complimentary breakfast. We are sorry that your room’s “potpourri” smell was disturbing to you, had you brought this to our attention we would have been happy to move you to a room of your liking. We discovered that a warm ember from your room’s fireplace had left several marks on the carpet – this can occur occasionally as a result of having fireplaces in all of our rooms and suites. We will be replacing the carpet this winter. Our staff takes great pride in providing excellent service and top quality accommodations and we hope to welcome you back to the Panther in the future.

It was our first stay at this lovely Inn and we loved it. We received a room upgrade at no extra cost. The staff were beyond professional, helpful and polite. The rooms were clean, well kept and the therapeutic tub was heavenly to say the least. The restaurant was excellent! Even the breakfast was very good served on villeroy and boch china which was a lovely touch. I highly recommend this place.

My husband and I have stayed at this Inn every November for at least three years now and are always very happy with the accomodations, the food, etc. We used to stay at the Equinox but we found they offer less for far more money. At the Reluctant Panther, the rooms are much larger, spacious bathrooms and even the deluxe rooms have "extras" like a gas fireplace. They even do a turn down service providing coconut maracoons! The Inn also has a very good restaurant so you can stay in for dinner and breakfast and get very good food. I'd highly recommend this Inn if you plan to be in the Manchester area.

Room Tip: You don't have to pay for a suite to get a very large room. We just stayed in the Fallen Spruce...

Went up to VT to escape the mess left by hurricane Sandy. We thought we wanted to stay at the Equinox resort & fortunately for us the were sold out. The Reluctant Panther is elegant country charm in a sophisticated way. The staff is warm and welcoming. Our room had a lovely fireplace, a huge soft, inviting bed and a large soaking tub. A nice feature of this that you can maintain your privacy. Stay here if you have the chance.

Review for restaurant only:

Very, very good food. Seared fois gras was excellent. Mixed greens salad had baby beets and walnuts, which we enjoyed very much. Filet mignon was tender and came with fried mashed potatoes and baby broccoli. The baby broccoli was easy to eat, and had a fresh, light taste. The cider donuts dessert was fluffy and loose, coated with brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon.

The room we had in this small hotel, the Library Room, had everything we could have asked for to add to the ambiance of a room away from home: fireplace, jetted tub, large, leather chaise lounge, comfortable setting. The hotel is located a block away from the main street in Manchester (not that it gets all that much traffic at night anyways), so there were no noise issues at all even though we were facing the street. The dining room is lovely and the food was very, very good. Breakfast there was a treat, given the lovely view of the back gardens and adjacent hills. We hope to stay there on our next trip to Vermont.

My wife and I went to the Panther for our 20th wedding anniversary, and had a great time. The staff was friendly and new the area well. Our room, which was the Pond Suite, was quite nice. It had a king bed with a double sided fireplace and a mini fridge. The room was clean and the deck was nice for sitting and drinking wine. The restaurant which is well worth eating at had some of the best venison medallions I have ever had. My wife had a fish dish that was equally as good. Once again the staff knew the menu well and was very helpful with our wine selection. As far as what to wear for dinner, a sports jacket is advisable, glad I brought one. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and it was also as good as our entrees. We will be returning to this inn in the not so distant future.
