Ive stayed at the RP a few times. Rooms are lovely and charming like an old home. Bedding is very very comfy. Bathroom vanities are smallish, but elegant. Tubs and showers are good. The breakfast is great - hot muffins by a roaring fire..always a fine thing. The RP is perfect for a romantic weekend. Just remember its an 'inn' -- no spa! Limited restaurant hours.

20 years ago we were married in the chapel of the First Congregational Church, & stayed at the Village Country Inn, which at that time was dated, but cozy, with a first class restaurant. Because that Inn is no longer in operation, we stayed at the Reluctant Panther For this trip. We loved our accommodations ... an upstairs cottage suite. In addition to the beauty of the Inn itself, the grounds are very well-done. While the breakfasts were tasty, there could have been more variety. Visited Hildene a second time, which is phenomenal! Great shopping in the Village. Wonderful scenery for a driving excursion in any direction. Lunch or dinner recommendation: Mulligan's!

My husband and I stayed at the Reluctant Panther for our honeymoon, and we were both so happy with the experience. To start with, our wedding was in October, the day before Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast (thankfully it didn't impact our wedding!). The staff at the RP called us a couple of days before we were set to leave for VT and spoke with my husband regarding the storm. They were concerned that they might lose power, and obviously that would result in a less than stellar honeymoon experience. They were more than happy to let us keep the reservation if we wanted, but the also offered to let us move to another date. We took them up on the offer, because we wanted to partake in a lot of outdoor activities, and ended up changing our reservation to this past week in May.

We took advantage of their "A VERMONT EPICUREAN EXPERIENCE" package, and stayed in the Panther Suite. The suite was very nice, and we were definitely happy with the accommodations. The bed was very, very comfortable, and we took advantage of the marble jacuzzi tub every night of our stay! We were a little bummed that they had already turned off the fireplaces (it's was still a tad chilly in VT), but it was understandable as they were entering the spring season. I read a few other reviews complaining about the condition of their rooms; we didn't have that problem with our room. Also, the exterior of the house, including the grounds, were beautifully put together during our stay.

We took advantage of the breakfast just about every morning of our stay. The servers were pleasant and the food was good. Likewise, we had a good dinning experience. The server who took our order was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The mushroom soup was superb, and the short ribs were extremely moist. Furthermore, their cheese selection for the included cheese and wine plate is extensive and delicious.

Finally, our experience with all of the staff was great. Everyone was pleasant and helpful, and always willing to accommodate our requests. Our week at the RP was fantastic, and we would definitely consider coming back and staying when we return to Vermont (which is certainly a must, given all the delicious restaurants we still need to try!).

Nestled in a "bowl" surrounded by beautiful Vermont mountains, this property is well maintained and deserving of its inclusion as a small luxury hotel. We got a well appointed suite and enjoyed the 2 gas fireplaces (one in bedroom and one in bathroom). Room was well appointed with combination of athentic antiques integrated with "Home Store" purchases. We could have done with a larger single room with a chair by the desk rather than the outer sitting room which was windowless and didn't add much. The restaurant was lovely, food was excellent and they accommodated my vegetarian preferences; their service was outstanding and friendly. Highlight was a visit to the Lincoln family home, "Hildene," a short drive down the road. Wonderfully staffed by articulate and knowledgeable volunteers and staff, it is both historic and you can get in up to 7 miles of hiking if you do all the trails and loops on the property. The outlet stores in town are upscale and worth a visit, if you enjoy outlet shopping. Otherwise, I'd recommend Manchester for skiing in the winter, golf in summer and hiking whenever possible.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger bedroom rather than a suite. Or, ask to see the suite first.

Ending a long weekend in southern Vermont in Manchester was something we have been looking forward to since the summer. When Hurricane Sandy disrupted our school schedule at home in NJ, three of the four of us planning this trip (teachers!) found ourselves working over what was supposed to be a long weekend in November to make up lost instruction time. When we rescheduled our trip for Easter weekend, we knew we'd lose a night's stay in Manchester, but consoled ourselves with the knowledge that we'd still get to enjoy the lovely town, nearby sights and shopping, and good company of friends.

Then we discovered that there had been an error in the transfer of our reservation from November to March for our planned accommodations -- the inn we booked at was not going to be open when we got there! We were disappointed, my husband and I having stayed there in the past, and it being an exceptional value and great location. My husband scoured Trip Advisor for reviews and who-knows-where on the Internet for availability and rates of other Manchester inns. Thank goodness for The Reluctant Panther. Not only did they have availability, but they did not have a restrictive minimum that required us to stay longer than the one night we had in town. We booked a room, and our friends booked minutes later.

This was a pricier option than our original one, but we knew our choices and time were limited, so we decided to call it a splurge and hoped our single night there would make it worthwhile. Did it ever!

When we arrived, we were immediately impressed by the lovely lobby and friendly desk service. Both couples were given complimentary upgrades to gorgeously appointed rooms, and it was all we could do to drag ourselves away and go to our dinner reservation. The next morning we opted to sleep in (thought personally I couldn't resist getting up, turning on the gas fireplace, making a cup of fresh coffee, and taking a soak in our jacuzzi tub), and headed down near the end of breakfast service. Nonetheless, we never felt rushed through our meal and every bit of it was fresh, hot, and scrumptious. We lingered over our coffee and left riiiiiight at check-out time. For a few minutes, we debated the relative merits of writing sub. plans and calling in sick to school the next day, just to see if we could squeeze in another night at The Reluctant Panther.

It was not where we wanted to stay, initially, and more than we wanted to pay. But you get what you pay for sometimes, and we are so SO glad we ended up here. We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: The Fallen Spruce room is at once a burst of exciting color and a soothing retreat. Highly recommen...

Had a great time here- the staff was really nice and helpful. They upgraded us for free on a low booking day. I think we were the only people there our first night. They also let us check in early when we arrived to town several hours ahead of time. Breakfast was great- Made to order and turn down service with chocolates was a nice touch. My only complaint is that there was no way to make some white noise. It snowed our first night there and we could hear the plowed going down the street all night long and on the 2nd night someone was in the room next door and their jacuzzi tub is apparently on our shared wall- pretty noisy to listen to them bath at 10pm. Other than that though the experience was great and really made for a nice anniversary trip.
