We booked a night in the Arbor Suite at the Reluctant Panther on the last night of a three day trip to Manchester. It was too bad we hadn't spent our first two nights there! The inn is lovely, luxurious and immaculate. Breakfast was included and served in their elegant and beautiful dining room. It was delicious. The staff are attentive and friendly. I can't wait to go back.

We stayed here after a winning an auction on Luxury Link for a three-night stay for $595, not a bad deal, given the inn's usual rates. We stayed in the Fallen Spruce Suite, which was indulgently decorated by local designer Susan Sargent. It was all grace, no pretense. And the bathroom was something to behold, including an ample spa tub that made for a relaxing Jacuzzi soak. The bed and linens were first-rate. We just had to remember to get up in time to grab breakfast downstairs. Plenty of hearty choices to start the day.
I found the staff to be unfailingly helpful and polite, especially Katie, the innkeeper who was on when we arrived. Some people had written about being treated indifferently or even rudely during their stay. Never came close to happening during our stay. FWIW, ownership of the inn had changed hands a couple of weeks before we arrived, though the daily staff was intact.
One night we had dinner at the inn, regarded as one of the better eating experiences in this part of Vermont. And with entrees in the $35-$40 range, it better be. My rack of lamb was cooked perfectly, as was the mushroom and truffle risotto the wife and I shared as an appetizer. In fact, that was the only hiccup of our stay. Between the food, wine, tax and tip, the meal cost about $175 including a $3 sharing charge for the appetizer. I felt that was rather petty, given the amount we had spent. I also had never seen such a charge for an appy (on our departure I mentioned it to Katie; in a subsequent email, she told me the chef agreed with my sentiments and dropped the charge). Otherwise, everything was great.
We stayed in the so-called mud season between the end of skiing and the start of the warm-weather tourism. That meant no crowds, but also not all the sights and attractions were open, and the scenery was not yet in full bloom. No matter. There's still plenty to do. And if all you want to do is relax, there are few better places to do it than at the Reluctant Panther.

We adore the Reluctant Panther and have stayed there three times in the past two years with exceptional experiences each time. We love that the Panther has traditional charm with modern renovations and comforts, and that each room/suite is uniquely and elegantly different from the rest (beautiful bathrooms too!). We prefer to stay in the main house since it's the newest, but the older rooms and suites are really quite lovely and cozy as well. The restaurant is outstanding, serving inventive dinners and a wide selection of breakfast for inn guests. Some of our favorite parts of our stays were interacting with the innkeepers and staff, and we loved that it was a family-run inn in many ways. However, at our last stay in March we were heartbroken to hear that the inn changed management that month and new innkeepers are now on board (some other posters on this site might take relief in that, but we never had anything but wonderful experiences at the Panther each time we stayed). We look forward to returning again, and hope few things have changed. By the way, we've stayed at the Equinox twice, but found the place to be too city-esque and bustling for such a quiet place in Vermont (but we do recommend their spa, which is outstanding and well outfitted). At the Panther, we feel like we're in a large home and living in the most comfortable lap of luxury!

My husband and I made reservation here a month ago and looked forward to coming. After reading some terrible reviews here, we almost cancelled our reservations and stayed somewhere else. I am SO glad we decided to try it for ourselves! We had such a great experience. The people were extremely friendly and accomodating. We loved our room - The Panther Suite - soaking in front of the fireplace was so relaxing! Both fireplaces were woodburning, so we didn't have any problems with the thermometer, as others said in their reviews. We had a dinner reservation at 7 but since we were running late, they were able to change it to 8:30 for us, even though they were booked. We requested a table by the fire and that is what we got - although it does become hot, so they let us turn it off and on when we wanted! The dining room was gorgeous and packed. The food was ridiculous! From the apps to dessert, we've never had such a meal, and we have gone to some great restaurants in NYC, Boston, Chicago, Paris, etc. We sat for 3 hours and loved every minute of it. Ignore the bad reviews and experience it for yourself like we did. I loved it!
