The Reluctant Panther Inn & Restaurant
Ranked #3 of 16 Hotels in Manchester
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 February 2011

We chose the Reluctant Panther for its proximity to the various ski mountains in the area, and were thrilled with the ambiance, charm and service at this small inn. After fun, physical days skiing, we genuinely looked forward to returning to our beautiful and spacious room - with its own fireplace and HUGE tub!

The restaurant was delightful, the staff extremely accommodating, and the location was perfect - slightly set back from the main strip in Manchester, but close enough for us to enjoy the town. We can't wait to return to see the inn in the summer and fall!

I booked the weekend ski package for my husband as a Christmas present. First, I should say that we had to change the date, and it was not an issue at all.
When we arrived everyone was very pleasant and our room was upgraded.
We stayed in the Pierre Suite- it was beautiful- we had our own separate entrance into our suite- the room had tons of charm and personality- right down to the beautiful jewelry box next to the bed. The bathroom was amazing- huge claw foot tub and the shower had great pressure. The staff was more than accommodating- and always greeted you with a smile. We had dinner there the first night- it was amazing and super romantic! The service was excellent- the wine list impressive- started with a nice amuse-bouche- and ended with homemade macaroons and chocolates. The food in between was spectacular! Breakfast each morning was included- and usually you assume bagels and coffee- it was a sit down, a la carte feast- anything from blueberry pancakes to poached eggs and spinach. Always a great meal. We tried to eat there Saturday night, but they were completely booked (being that it was Valentine's Day weekend). They tried to offer dinner in our room or in their other dining area- with the option of ordering from the other menu- but we didn't want to be a bother- so they recommend and got us reservations for another local restaurant. The package also included a cheese plate and wine- which was a very nice treat to come back to after a day of skiing and shopping. And there were ski tickets to Bromley- that we had a great time using- perfect conditions. Don't have one bad thing to say about the trip- I would recommend this place to everyone!! One more thing I should add for the business people out there- free wi-fi- always nice!

We had a 4 night stay in the Fallen Spruce Suite. The suite was beautifully decorated with warm colors; and highlighted by a four poster bed that was remarkably comfortable. The gas fireplace was perfectly placed across from the bed; and the 32 inch flat panel and DVD player provided alternative viewing. The elegant bathroom and Jacuzzi were beautifully designed. We felt right at home and didn't want to leave. The breakfast was gourmet; and the chef came out to make sure we were pleased. The staff was always there to make sure we were happy with everything. We will return.

We were recommend this hotel by our tour operator and were pleased we stayed here. Manchester is not as exciting for tourists as further north around Woodstock. Nonetheless it makes a good touring base adn offers some good shopping outlets in a tranquil environment.

We stayed and ate here over three nights. After the 1st night we asked to change rooms as the bed was too soft for my Partner who suffers back problems. The 2nd bedroom was much better. Not only was the bed good but the room was much larger as was the bathroom (See pictures). There was a supplement on the price but this was worthwhile.

The hotel changed hands earlier this year and has been bought by two hotel professionals who have run some well known hotels in the past. They are not involved on a day to day basis but they have a solid professional management team in place.

Our 2nd bedroom had a good, firm, American King sized bed and a small sofa for seating. All rooms are called suites. At best they are junior suites or large doubles as they don't have separate lounge areas.

The bathroom was very large and had separate shower and two person jacuzzi.

The air conditioning worked faily well but, because the 2nd room was in the main building it suffered the heat from the rest of the building and was hard to cool down to the right temperature.

The restaurant was a real pleasure and the service and food very good indeed. Although the wine list was not huge, it was well chosen and has won awards in the past.

The restaurant staff were highly professional and friendly so, all in all, a very good experience.

We recently stayed at the Reluctant Panther during our vacation. We stayed in the Florist Suite two nights and then the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Suite the third night. This is one of the most beautiful, spacious, elegant inns we have ever stayed in. Both rooms were beautiful with king size beds, gorgeous decor, fireplaces, separate sitting areas, etc. But we loved the Florist room the best because of our own private porch with rocking chairs. Great place to have a glass of wine before dinner. The breakfasts were great; and we had a fabulous dinner one evening (as part of our package). We enjoyed sitting outside for dinner, and our server (Michael) was wonderful. The food was superb. The grounds of the property are beautiful; I could sit in the adirondack chairs by the little pond and fountain all afternoon! I highly recommend this inn. We took advantage of the mid-week special (two nights, including two breakfasts and one dinner). Great special. We will definitely be back for a visit to Manchester,,and when we do, we will definitely stay at this wonderful inn. All of the staff were also wonderful.
