“A home away from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 October 2013

Just returned home from Seth Warner Inn and am already missing the hospitality and friendship of Stasia and Richard. We have been visiting Manchester area over the past 12 years and always stay at Seth Warner because it has become a home away from home. We usually travel there the same week in October and have come to know many of the guests who return at the same time every year as well. Staying at the Seth Warner is like going home to visit family without the family tension. Stasia and Richard are gracious hosts who will do anything to make their guests feel comfortable and welcomed. They are knowledgeable about area dining, hiking, events, shopping and services. My husband broke his glasses while we were there and they told us where to get them fixed...cost us $7...cheapest part of the trip :-) Stasia bakes every morning, and her breakfasts are delicious, prepared from local ingredients, and beautifully presented. If you go away hungry, it is your own fault. All of the rooms are charming and immaculate, but I love the Hester Warner room and stay there as often as possible when we return. The entire B&B is charming and exhibits the love and care of its owners. If you want Vermont charm and warm hospitality at a reasonable rate, book the Seth Warner Inn. You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: All the rooms are charming. I love the Hester Warner because the four windows give a view of the pon...

My wife and I first stayed at the inn in 1987. We visited Vermont often and always stayed at B&B's. When we found this gem we vowed never to stay anywhere else when we were in the Manchester area. Over the years we have enjoyed many visits. Stasia and Rich make you feel as if you are one of the family. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated. The breakfasts are creative and delicious. The inn is convenient to all activities and is just a pleasant place to stay. We highly recommend this beautiful B&B to the weary traveler.

My wife had written a review that I completely agree with. This was an amazing time that could not have been better. It was like staying with relatives that you didn't know you had. What prompted me to write this review was seeing the ranking of alternative places to stay. Other family members were at another place that is rated much higher by whatever scale TripAdvisor uses. Let me just say simply that they were incredibly jealous of our accommodation at the Seth Warner Inn.

Over he past 15 years we have returned to this inn time and time again. The hosts, Richard and Stasia, have wonderful personalities and are very knowledgeable about events and history of the area. They make excellent suggestions for dinner and places of interest. The inn is metoiculously clean and each room has its own charm. The breakfasts are the best compared to many other B & Bs we have stayed in. Her baked goods each day are a real treat topping a wonderful, fresh breakfast. We would highly recommend the Seth Warner B & B to friends, relatives and anyone traveling for business, pleasure or special events.

We've stayed in a lot of B&B's and this one was not memorable.

First, the good news. The place is clean and charming. The furnishings are impeccable. The big upstairs hallway gives it a feeling of spaciousness. But...

Being located outside of Manchester Village, the inn is very close to a portion of Route 7A where the speed limit is pretty fast, so even while enjoying the delightful pond and grounds (I can only dream about having a lawn so nice), traffic is zooming by. Our bathroom had a problem with the hot/cold water valve, so there were unpleasantly surprising changes in temp while in use. There was no shampoo in the bathroom - that sounds like a nit-pick, but it was indicative of an overall impression that the owner was cutting every possible corner. Breakfast was okay, but sparse on fresh ingredients such as fruit, seconds were not offered on anything, and we were told we could only have the homemade jam if we really wanted some (it ended up being Smuckers-like). The host and hostess has very little first-hand knowledge of local restaurants. The owners were not unpleasant, but we have experienced far warmer hospitality.

Perhaps it's just that you get what you pay for, and this is a relative bargain by Manchester standards, so manage your expectations accordingly.

Stasia T, Owner at Seth Warner Inn, responded to this review, 28 June 2013
We are sorry that these guests did not have a "memorable" stay with us. We have read and reread their review, and aside from being dissapointed, we were, frankly, puzzled. With regards to the traffic, the inn is located on Rt. 7A, an historic old stagecoach route. Most of the inns and hotels in the area on situated on this road. The speed limit ranges from 25 MPH in town to 35 MPH here in front of the Inn...hardly a raceway. We were also puzzled by their comments about their breakfast.. They were served three kinds of fresh fruit with each meal, the coffee pot is always full as is the juice containers. It is not a serve-yourself "continental" breakfast, you are served at private, candlelit tables. No "seconds" were requested but would have gladly been provided if they were.

The comment about a lack of familiarity with the area restaurants is also perplexing. After 25 years in this area we are not only familiar with the restaurants but know many of the owners and chefs personally. When these guests arrived they were shown a book we keep containing copies of the menus of all local restaurants and, later, discussed their planned choices of places for dinner...offering what other guests had reported about their dining experiences there.

After all our years here we have learned that shampoo and other notions are rarely used. Most people seem to bring their own favorites, so we stopped providing them. Based on this review, however, we will reinstitute the practice. Regarding a variation in water temperature in the shower, it is rare but it does happen when in the unusual event that all guest rooms happen to be taking showers at the same time. The building is, all, over 200 years old and even with modernization the possiblity of temperature variance exists. We continue to explore a correction for this even though we seldom get complaints.

We maintain a guest register book where guests may write comments about their stay and literally hundreds of these comments applaud our friendliness and accomodations. We are extremely proud of our "regulars list" (guests who return time after time) and we make new "regulars" all the time. This does not happen by "cutting corners".

We take all of our reviews very seriously and we are dedicated to our guests and to the mission of providing them with enjoyable stays so we will keep this review in mind and do what is necessary to continue to act upon their suggestions.

We very much appreciate their compliments upon the cleanliness of our rooms, the decor and the maintainence of our grounds. Once again, we are sorry that we did not seem to meet your full expectations and we do thank you for your comments.

We recently stayed at the Seth Warner Inn for 3 nights . From the moment we stepped into the foyer we knew we made the right choice . We were greeted by Richard one of our hosts , who was warm and friendly and showed us around the inn and to our room . He told us wonderful stories about the Inn's history which we thoroughly enjoyed . We stayed in the Seth Warner room and loved every inch of the room . We slept like babies listening to the babbling brook outside our window. We had delicious breakfasts prepared by our other host Stasia . Richard and Stasia were gracious enough to allow us to be married in there sitting room. Linda Spence the town clerk performed the ceremony in the Inn's sitting room . It was magical and we will never forget this very special time in our lives . Thank you Richard and Stasia for 3 beautiful incredible days .

We recently stayed at Seth Warner Inn for 2 nights. It's nicely situated out of the main town of Manchester, on a pretty piece of property. We stayed in the John Stark room, which is the only room on the main floor. It was cozy, nicely decorated, and had a very comfortable bed. The issue with this room is that it's right inbetween the sitting room and the dining room. If other guests are gathered in the sitting room and talking, you will definitely hear it. The same for the dining room, where breakfast is served from 8-9 am. If you want to sleep in, forget it, the chatter from breakfast will wake you. The room was a fair size with a small private bathroom. If you like comfy, squishy, or feather pillows then you best bring your own. The foam pillows provided were not comfortable. The shower head in our bathroom was in dire need of a replacement and the towels were typical motel quality thin, small towels. Except for a couple of cheap bars of soap, no toiletries were provided; no shampoo, conditioner, shower gel or lotion. For the price that they charge, I really expected more comforts.
We had delicious pancakes the first morning, served with a piece of store bought cake. The next morning was a quiche with a pumpkin bread which appeared to be homemade. Breakfast was very tasty, but we were never offered even a refill on our small glass of juice.
The hosts were pleasant, and offered us information on local happenings.
It was a nice few nights away but if I were to return to Manchester, I would try another B&B.
The outlet shopping has also deteriorated quite a bit, nothing like I remembered it from years ago.
It was charming and quaint but I feel needed a few upgrades for the prices that they charged.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the John Stark room on the first floor, you will hear every footstep in the house and...
