...and perhaps all of New England. And that's not an overstatement. Absolutely exquisite menu. Impeccably presented food. Professionally served by a world-class staff. The Inn itself is charming and warm. We can't wait to go back!

“Would highly recommend the tasting menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2014

The young chef of this restaurant will go very very far. We stayed at the inn for two nights and had dinner in the inn restaurant both nights. The second night, we starved all day so we could enjoy the tasting menu that evening. For us, it was eight courses with wine, as the chef kindly provided us with an extra course after a very nice discussion at the small inn bar. Each course was creative but not just for the sake of having lots of words on the menu. Things really went together and were cooked to perfection. The wines that were paired with the foods were perfect, though I must admit I got a little tipsy after the 7th glass. The breakfasts were also delicious and just the right amount of food. The homemade raspberry jam was a whole mouthful of heaven. Also, the room is so pleasant. Two fireplaces, gorgeous floral arrangements and such nice servers, Amy and one who is with the fire service whose name I can't recall right now. Must have been the wine ;-)

“"Fine Dining"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2014

While I had not eaten in The Reluctant Panther for forty years, I had never forgotten it.  TomTom did not seem to know about it, perhaps because I looked under restaurants instead of inns.  However, when I asked, Richard, the concierge in my hotel how far it was, I was assured that it was only 300 yards.  He knew them to be full that night (the town was full) but he would be happy to make my reservation for the following night.

The Reluctant Panther is "fine dining."  From the decor to the service to the ambience to the menu to the presentation to the food, it is world class.  While the menu contains the meat, fish, and fowl that one expects in such a dining room, the dishes are all creations featuring local ingredients.  While we had no disappointing meals in Manchester Center, this one was outstanding.  While one might not want to take the kids, while it is one of the more expensive places in an expensive neighborhood, it is a good value.

“Second Visit; Even Better; Don't Miss”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2013

The dining room of the Reluctant Panther Inn is setting a new standard in southern Vermont. We ate there in the summer and were impressed. We ate there in December and were even more impressed. The chef uses local produce and foods and presents them in interesting (but understandable) variations. The first courses are outstanding -- whether a spicy tomato soup, the roasted squash green salad, or the local cheeses; each was distinctive and good. For main courses, we had the parsnip ricotta gnocchi -- wonderful, delicate flavor (delicate is not a word I usually associate with gnocchi); braised short ribs (very good); and chicken breast with dauphine potatoes and brussels sprouts (subtle, rich flavor). Even the desserts were excellent. One of our group had the Buche de Noel (which I normally would never have in a restaurant), and we all agreed that it reminded us why we loved this particular seasonal dish. The wine list is rather limited but with a little effort you can find the right pairing for you meal.
