We stayed here based on recent reviews. I think some of them were shills. This hotel just opened and it was AWFUL in so many ways. I list three here:
1. Supposedly renovated rooms. Half truth. New linens, that is true. But old rooms, only half rehabed. Ours was somewhat dirty and dated.
2. Very limited hotel staff. No 24 hour front desk. Toilet clogged, and no plunger in the room. A call to the hotel took a good 30 minutes to get a plunger because no one was at the front desk.
3. Free breakfast sucked. When we got down, there were no coffee mugs, no eggs left, no bacon left, and no potatoes left. What seemed like a VERY inattentive or overwhelmed staff. So, the breakfast was all but a total loss. i took a picture of the food area (and no it was not at the very end of breakfast time). The photo tells a thousand words.
In conclusion, we stayed here because of the positive reviews, the supposedly free breakfast and the supposedly reasonable price. As with all life lessons, there is a reason for cheap prices, and here, it is because this hotel is far, far, far from ready for prime time. Staying down the road at virtually any other joint in this town, at a nominal cost of ten or twenty dollars more would have been more than worth it. We have options as consumers, and should get what we are told to expect. As a frequent traveler, this place was awful, and other than supplying a clean bed, offered little else. Sleep elsewhere or proceed at your own risk.

The Cortina Inn & Resort is recently reopened under new owners after being closed due to Legionnaire's Disease. The hotel is undergoing extensive renovations, and when they are done, it might not be too bad. Unfortunately it is not ready yet. The rooms are recently redecorated clean and the beds are very comfortable. Upon entering the room we discovered a large black hairy spider on the ceiling. When I called the desk, I got a busy signal. So I walked back and front desk clerk was very nice about it, and came to kill the beast, unfortunately leaving the desk vacant. The room lacks all normal amenities like coffee maker, ice bucket, hair dryer, even the hotel directory book and bible were missing. There was no directions on emergency evacuation on the back of the door. A full breakfast was included and was better then many I have had. Unfortunately the buffet lacked staffing and attention and many things ran out. There were no napkins, they were using paper towels. When you needed something, you had to go to the front desk to alert them that something was empty. The hot tub had about 3 working jets. What little staff they had were very nice and tried to help, but were obviously overwhelmed. To top off the entire adventure, the fire alarm went off causing the building to be evacuated.

Room Tip: I booked through Expedia and got a better price then they had offered for the group rate and the AAA rate.

Dear TriviaFanatics,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and saying a few nice things about your stay with us. I just wanted to clarify some of the points you had mentioned and hopefully give you some answers to your concerns.

We apologize for the spider however; we are in the Vermont countryside and even with considerable effort cannot keep all of nature’s creatures from wanting to come inside. All of our rooms are equipped with a hairdryer, ice bucket and bible. The hairdryer is usually placed in the closet and it may have been overlooked. As for the ice bucket and bible we are in the process of replacing some that have been taken. We do not have coffee makers in the room but do have coffee/tea available to our guest in the lobby/restaurant 24hours a day. In our Fall and Winter seasons we also have hot apple cider!

You are correct on stating that we were understaffed this past weekend but we were pleasantly surprised by the number of walk-ins and last minute reservations that we received and did what we could to make everyone as comfortable as possible.

Despite your mixed review we do hope that you will stay with us again.

We spent two nights at the Cortina Inn and Resort as we traveled through Vermont to meet friends. Extremely comfortable and clean rooms (recently redone). Owners and staff are so welcoming and friendly. Thanks for the tips on things to do and directions. Thanks for the friendly smiles. Thanks for all the work you've put in to making this a great place to stay. By the way, if you're there on Fridays, don't consider eating anywhere else but the all you can eat Italian feast. We recently traveled to Italy and can say that chef Patrick is on par with with chefs we enjoyed there. The extra touch of coming out into the dining area to greet us, find out if we had any special needs, and check on our meals was so wonderful.

We have been going to this inn on and off since 1973. It just reopened under new mangement, verry accomidating. The rooms have all ben renovated and are spectacular! Breakfast was excellent and the price was right! We gave this place another visit after being closed for a few years and we had such a nice time that we will be back. Give it a shot, it's worth the trip!!!
