“Best Bang for the Buck!”
Reviewed 20 December 2010

Once again I stayed at the KP for my annual ski trip. Again I was met with great service, great accomodations and treated like family. This is a smaller older family run inn and the owners are very service and customer oriented. They will bend over backwards to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Although an older property, the accomodations are clean, comfortable and well serviced. Another plus is that most of the rooms are larger than your average motor inn. The beds are in great shape and comfortable. The bathrooms are decent size and depending on the room, will contain a bath/shower combo or a larger walk-in shower big enough for two. For the skiers, there is an area in each room where you can hang your skis at the end of the day. Each room also contains a small refridgerator and the TV's have inputs you can use if you have a portable DVD player. The property is also served by in-room WiFi.

The main building area contains a fireplace, overstuffed couches and a game/family room also containing a fireplace with books, games, a large screen TV as well as a foosball & pool table.

As far as location goes, you are halfway between Killington and Rutland and thus, can take advantage of the best of both locales. Killington is about 7 miles away, but if you don't feel like driving that far, Pico Mountain is a mere 2 miles away .

There is a continental breakfast available daily that includes cold cereals, bagels and condiments, juices and fresh-made waffles. Coffee and hot water for tea are available 24 hrs.

Oh, I forgot to mention that there is an outdoor hot tub available as well. If you don't feel like using the outdoor tub, ask about room #14 which for a few dollars more, is a two room suite containing a private hot tub big enough for two adults.

Overall, this is the best value for lodging considering the location, accomodations, service and anemities. A testament to this is that the KP has a large number of "regulars" who return year after year.

Clean, comfortable and affordable. Definitely the best bang for the buck at Killington.

Met my boyfriend and his buddy here who were through hiking on the long trail and we only needed a place to crash for the night. The rooms were spacious and clean. Not new and fancy by any means but the place had a lot of character. The best part about this hotel was the service. The management offered to do the through hikers laundry which I am sure was not a pleasant task. And on top of that at no additional fee! They guys dropped their stuff off before we headed to dinner and the next morning they had fresh clothes by breakfast! And the included continental breakfast was not bad either. Management was always walking around asking if we needed anything, was our coffee hot enough, etc. Anything we asked for they went out of their way to accommodate. If I ever need a hotel in this area again I will definitely stay here!

I have stayed here on two occasions and both times have been wonderful. While the rooms aren't by any means state of the art, they are clean and very large, they have refrigerators, and they do the trick. When I go skiing, the majority of the time I spend in the room is sleeping, so I don't really care about whether or not there is a flat screen tv.

The owners are extremely friendly and helpful and you get the feeling they really care about their customers and they want to make sure that you have a great time while your at Killington.

Breakfast every morning is amazing. Pancakes and breakfast sandwiches are made fresh, there is also always a variety of breads and fruit. Certainly a much better breakfast then anyone is going to get on the mountain for $20.

Overall, this is a great place to stay and I would, and will absolutely stay there again.

Owners very friendly and helpful with suggestions about skiing and dining. Seemed to have a number of regular customers so there was sort of a community feel. There are places closer and with perhaps nicer accommodations, but if you're just going to ski (bars and restaurants are also 10 minutes away) and looking for the basics (at an unbeatable price) this is likely your best bet..

Read the reviews, mostly positive. Arrived, and could not figure out how this outdated place received such great reviews. The lobby is messy and dirty, the very 1st sign that the room will be no better. The room (17) was disgusting and outdated. Blinds missing, no fan in the bathroom (instead the owners left a window open), dirty, mold encrusted showers, and a DIRTY FORK ON THE SIDE OF THE BED (between the mattress and box spring). OBVIOUSLY the owner/cleaner did NOT replace the sheets from the last stay otherwise this would have been seen. Did not want to remove my shoes or coat for fear of getting my feet/clothing dirty. My traveling partner and I refused to stay and demanded a refund. The owner and worker both noted how bad business is and how they have run out of money to do the necessary upgrades to keep this motel competitive with others in the area. The worst part is we booked our reservations through Killington, whose customer service was a NIGHTMARE when it came to getting a refund. Ended up paying a bit more and staying in the Northstar Hotel, which was MUCH cleaner and nicer than this facility. I feel bad the owners of the Pico don't have enough money for upkeep due to the economy, however they could at least make sure the place was clean, which it wasn't. Would not recommend this to anyone.

I was a little reluctant about staying somewhere for $55 a night (with breakfast) but was pleasantly surprised. Built in the 1950's it looked like a typical motel with an L-shape and main office. I did not see the lounge and dining room area until breakfast the next morning. Pleasant, rustic, cozy and comfortable.
Owners were very friendly and accomadating. My room was too hot (heater problem) and they switched me immediately. Rooms were very clean.... in fact, they were vaccuumed when I went skiing. Sheets were crisp and smelled fresh... even had creases in them. Towels were changed daily. I did a quick job of making the bed but they re-did it anyway.
Not very crowded mid-week and when I asked if I could bring some wine into the lounge area they even offered to start the huge fireplace. I was only going to be there for a little while and told them not to. Where else would they start a fireplace for one person without even asking? Handyman was an interesting fellow and we talked for quite a while in the lounge area. Breakfast was nothing fancy but plenty of it. Freshly made wafles (do-it-yourself it, easy), variety of cereal, muffins, bagels, coffee and juice. Reminded me of an old-time hotel and ski area. Thought I was in an old Newhart
episode for a while. Very pleasant stay. Five miles from the mountain road to KIllington. Best deal I've had in a long time. Free wireless, but weak signal. Nice hot tub.
