“Lovely Stay”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

We stayed in a lovely Carriage House room. It was big, nicely finished and very comfortable. The whirlpool tub was appreciated after a long bike ride. The restaurant was very good too. The Inn was considerably bigger than a B&B, but much more charming than an impersonal hotel.

I do not know what could have been done to make our experience better. Our room in the Carriage House was magnificent. Breakfast on the terrace was superb each of our three days there. We strongly recommend having dinner at least one night at Jessica's Restaurant. The menu has something to satisfy every taste. The use of local products further enhances the dishes offered. Their wine selection is surprisingly extensive and very fairly priced. Tommy (the bartender) was very knowledgable about the selections on their wine list and helped us pick the right pairing each evening. Throughout our stay the Browns and their staff were constantly working to make sure our stay was relaxing and fun. We are looking forward to making a return trip to The Swift House Inn

Just happy staff- Michele and Suzi ( sorry if mispelled) can not do enough to make your stay a great one. The Browns have a wonderful Inn .Tom ( the bartender) adds to the ambience.
The Inn has many different accomodations.Ours suited us perfectly. unfortunately dinner was not served the night were arrived, but "The Storm Cafe" was booked for us. It was very good!
Breakfast was delightful -dispite another large group- we were not neglected. Good Food!

Grounds are beautifully landscaped, giving guests restful and gorgeous views from their rooms. Our room was a page out of the past, but with modern amenities awaiting our use. Meals on the terrace dining area gave us more time to refresh and relax in the shade. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and efficient. Easy and quick check-in.

Can't say enough good things about this Inn - rooms are clean, staff is friendly, easy walk into town center. They also provide garage space to store bikes. Breakfast is included. The portions are not large but there is also fruit, cereal etc

My wife and I stayed at the Swift House Inn when in Middlebury recently for a gathering of friends. It has the charm and warmth one hopes for when staying in a small New England town. Tall, old-fashioned bed, attractive furniture (see their web site), and a modern, private bathroom that included a shower with good pressure. Although the Inn is conveniently located, it provides a very nice hot breakfast for its guests.

Minor quibbles for room 27: the shower stall was a bit small for a normal-sized person, and the TV location made it difficult to see from the bed or one of the chairs.

My family of five just came back from a wedding in the Middlebury area. And while we were there we stayed two nights at the Swift House Inn. There is more than one building at the Swift House. We stayed in the main building in rooms 28 and 21. Room 28 was quite large with room to sleep three comfortably; and room 21 was good-sized as well for two. Rooms were very clean.
This inn is the real deal folks. You are stepping back in time when you walk through the front door. There are several rooms on the first floor for dining and relaxing. There are also two outdoor spaces--one, a screened porch overlooking the main street; and the other, a large porch attached to the dining room. We took our cocktails on the former and our breakfast on the latter. Note: the FULLY stocked bar and amiable barkeep are just what the doctor ordered to make your stay a delight.
The breakfast is wonderful-- the morning paper, a variety of juices, coffees or teas; fruit, croissants, cereal, yogurt, eggs any way you want them, French toast, pancakes; and a frittata as the special one day. Michelle, the innkeeper/owner, assists with the service and is happy to help you in any way she can. She is delightful.
They also serve dinner at the Inn but we didn't have chance to try it...maybe next time.
Located conveniently on Rt. 7, the Inn is set back a bit and just beyond the town center. You are a 10 minute walk from the action;i.e., shopping(Made in Vermont), dining(Storm Cafe--eat outdoors), bars. And to top it all off, there is a river, including a sizeable waterfall, that runs right through the center of town. Nice touch.
Enjoy.
