Description: Since 1974, Vermont's Most Beautiful Restaurant & Pub has been specializing in slow roasted prime rib, hand-cut steaks, homemade mashed potatoes and live lobster. Chef's specials daily. Extensive salad bar with 50+ items, including peel & eat shrimp, Cabot cheddar cheese, local breads, homemade carrot cake and free Monument Farms milk (try the chocolate!). We offer 9 different dining areas, each with its own unique theme. Families are always welcome-ask about our children's theater area. The Big Moose Pub opens at 4:30, the dining rooms at 5pm, daily. We do serve lunch, but only on Friday & Saturday (beginning at noon) and Sunday (starting at 1pm). Reservations appreciated.

I went here with my family after my brothers North South Vermont high school football all star game at Middlebury college. We got there early enough on Saturday and there were still hot items on the salad bar, I think that ends at 3:00 (you should call to double check because this did greatly enhance the salad bar with soups, hot desserts, and some other cheesy thing we loved . The salad bar alone is worth the trip with great salad selections, dessert, and a great milk and chocolate milk dispenser included in the salad bar. Our service was great, the atmosphere was great. Pricing was a little high but competitive with other stake houses with salad bars. If you are in Middlebury and are looking for a cool place to sit down for lunch or dinner (not sure if they have Sunday brunch) you should not be disappointed with Fire and Ice restaurant. There is a neat old wooden boat right in the middle of the salad bar and really cool decor throughout the property. We will return!

Waited a long time (over an hour) to receive entrees - restaurant was almost empty. Manager said delay was caused by the fact that two of our party had salad bar and two had bread and cheese bar - couldn't figure that one out. The manager comped our desserts. Bread was stale, with just one kind of cheese. C'mon - $6.00 additional for salad bar! Our dinners were very tasty, however, my friend and I got very sick from shrimp scampi. I received an empty response to an email that I sent to owner/executive chef, with no follow-up. I don't think we'll be returning to Fire & Ice.

We went there on November 8th and had a fine meal, unlike the reviewer before this. Place was crowded by 6PM. We hadn't been there in ten or more years and had memories of mediocre food from before. This visit, the food was quite good, not awesome but very good. Generous portions. We were with a group of 11 in a back room and had very attentive and fast service. All were happy with their meals. Large menu. Interesting decor - if you're a boater, you'll love the beautiful, antique Hackercraft in the middle of the large salad bar. All kinds of memorabilia of Vermont's past. Think it would be a great place for a family group.

Restaurant seems to be dependent on days of old when it was well-run, with good food, loyalty to local regulars, a popular place to go. Food seems overpriced for what you get. We watched the manager tell someone to leave after accusing him of stealing food but showing no evidence thereof. Embarrassing for all!
