The Lobby is a very nice place to sit for a drink, and grab something to eat. I've been there a number of times, and always found the service to be very pleasant, and the food to be very decent. This is not a gourmet place, but the food is better comparing to near by places like 51 main or Two Brothers. A very nice selection of tap beer and a decent wine list.

Apparently, this restaurant has been open only a few months, but it is owned by a person in Burlington known for his restaurants and good food.
The setting is delightful along side the stream that runs through Middlebury. The decor is wonderful - crisp and modern with antique touches and wonderful black and white photos on white walls.
The food was quite good, and we were pleased with the menu and what he selected.
The service was caring, but the waitress has the loudest voice I've ever heard in a server. Maybe she thought we were deaf, but she seemed to think everyone was deaf. She was attentive, but we grimaced when she approached, as we wanted to cover our ears.
The overall experience was very good, but that voice.......oh, dear. Bless her heart for enthusiasm. Just lower the voice.

The Lobby offers excellent riverfront dining in a room full of light. The kitchen is innovative, but not all of the dishes work.

The setting is very neat. The food was good, but not great. We had the tofu beignet which is really more of a fritter. The sangria lacked fruit - just a schnapps and wine. The PEI mussels were good, though the curry was hard to detect. Crank up the curry! The ricotta gnocchi was delicious.

Interesting funky building and décor. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. Meal pacing was very rushed as if they were trying to turn the tables over quickly despite many empty tables. Entries arrived just as our appetizers were being cleared. Escargot was excellent – tender, flavorful with a very nice sauce to enhance the dish. The green salad had good fresh greens and an excellent vinaigrette dressing. The mussels were somewhat overcooked and the broth was pleasant but undistinguished. Given that this was an entre the portion size was small. Most appetizer portions are larger. The homemade potato chips served with the mussels were burnt. A smoked seafood salad was quite good with a plentiful amount of seafood and good salad greens. The wine list is not large but is well thought out with a reasonable variety. If you like comfy chairs sit upstairs. I would give this restaurant 3.5 stars if that option was available.
