Looking for a place to stay in particular with a large size dog (which can be a challenge), I found Phineas Swann. We were almost lost for words when Darren showed us our room (the Terrier Suite). Besides all the nice details for us humans, there were two bowls for water and food for the dog, a jar with doggy treats AND a doggy bed! We have travelled a lot and stayed in many places with our dog(s) but have not ever encountered anything like this anywhere in the world. The hosts do not just claim to be dog friendly...they really are!
Unfortunately we could stay only one night and had to leave quite early in the morning, way before the official breakfast time. Nevertheless Darren made us a great breakfast to make sure that we did not have to leave with an empty stomach.
We do hope that some day we can return to Phineas Swann and stay a bit longer...with or without dog.

We're glad you got to stay with us and enjoy the way travel with your pet should be. A doggie bed, bowls and jar of doggie treats are standard for our four-legged guests. We hope we get to host you again, and encourage you to check out one of our even larger suites for more comfort during your stay.

We stayed at Phineas Swann with our two children over Easter weekend. Great breakfast, wonderful hosts, nice rooms, nice amenities, pet-friendly. Make sure you ask for descriptions of the rooms. We stayed in the Green Mountain Room, which has empty space between the walls of the bedrooms, which restricted privacy. It worked for us, though, and it was a beautiful space, but if you want privacy between bedrooms, ask for another room. Thank you, Darren and Lynn, for a wonderful weekend! We will be back!

Thank you so much for the great feedback and compliments! Your family (and your darling dog Oreo) were wonderful. You've highlighted the key difference in our two 2-bedroom suites which will help future guests decide between the two: Our Green Mountain Suite where you stayed is a little more contemporary in design, but has open vaulted ceilings between the two bedrooms. Our 2-bedroom Bulldog Suite has more traditional full walls between the bedrooms. When you come back, come stay in our Bulldog Suite and I think you'll have an even better visit than before! Or you could even set up shop in one of our River House Suites and spread out! Thanks again for visiting with us!

My husband and I stayed on the top floor of the river house for a family wedding. Our room was warm and cozy despite the chilly VT temps! Lynne and Darren cooked amazing breakfasts both days and were very accommodating of different dietary needs. They went above and beyond to make the family feel welcome for the weekend. The B&B was a lovely location for the small wedding and would be a nice, quiet place to stay when visiting Jay Peak.

Thank you so much for the compliments. As you mentioned, we host a number of small weddings from elopements all the way up to 75-guest affairs. We're glad spring is here and our weddings will move from our scenic Vermont Room outdoors into our lovely gardens! We hope to see you again soon!

It's always great to stay at the Phineas! The beds are so comfortable, the breakfasts are so delicious and the fireplace room is nice to relax after a day of skiing at Jay Peak. Make sure to enjoy the homemade cookies and snacks available anytime. Innkeepers and staff are always friendly and take good care of their guests. Our favourite getaway.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Main Inn are cozy & comfortable & if you want more space choose a suite.

My recent stay at this Inn in northern Vermont was amazing. Pre-visit I received a call from one of the lovely Inn-Keepers, Lynne to find out if I had any special dietary needs. Revealing a gluten intolerance, I was very excited to find GF cookies ready for me upon arrival.
I thought the concept of a dog friendly B&B was great. The pets do not stay in the main house, but can stay in the suites in both the Carriage house and River house. I did not bring my puppy but I did see humans greeted at check in with fresh cookies and puppies were offered home made doggie biscuits.
Breakfast changes daily with locally sourced bacon / sausage. The apples on the waffles (gluten free for me) were picked off trees in the back yard of the inn. Of course, if you are not a fan of blackberry stuffed french toast made with homemade bread (again, GF option for me) then one of the lovely ladies is very happy to whip up some eggs. On banana pancake day, I did opt out of the bananas so I could enjoy the delicious vermont maple syrup as a syrup purist. Each morning we were greeted at the breakfast table with the ski report so we could prepare for our day on the slopes.
After a long day on the ski slopes at Jay Peak, you can warm up by the fireplace in the main inn with an assortment of hot teas, hot chocolate or coffee. These are always available along with sodas and loads of snacks. Granola bars, jars of nuts and M&Ms and on the cake platter under the dome is always freshly baked cookies. My GF cookies were on a separate plate wrapped in plastic. There is a cooler with beer and wine options. Where else can you get a beer for $3.50? The wine selection is amazing. I spoke with Darren, Lynne's husband, he tries to find unique wines that you would not typically find at your local liquor store. The wines were all extremely affordable - the prices were comparable to a wine store. They had a wine for every pallete including sparkling wine. Snacks and sodas were all complimentary and alcohol was on the honor system. We told Darren when we checked out which bottle of Malbec we drank.
Lynne and Darren are an amazing resource of local activities. They will call and arrange a dog sled ride for you (book in advance - they fill up!), offer restaurant recommendations and anything else they can help you with.
I requested a massage during my stay and Lynne arranged to have the masseuse come to the B&B. I believe his name was Rich and he did an incredible job. He customized the massage to focus on my aches and pains. Both the dog sledding and massage appeared on my bill at checkout. Lynne and Darren arranged everything.
The staff is top notch! I was surprised to find out that most have a long history of working at Phineas Swann - one lady has been employed there for 10 years! The ladies I interacted with were courteous, helpful and very nice.
I can't wait to go back go back and visit in the warm weather with my dog!

Room Tip: The main inn has 3 standard rooms with queen sized beds - no pets. The rooms in the carriage house...

Green Features: I was very pleased to see the staff left my used towel on the hook I left it to dry. Typically housekeeping will fold the towels to make the room look nice but then you have no idea which towel you used.

Thank you for your very kind and very detailed review! You've certainly given future guests a good overview of what they can expect when they visit the Phineas Swann. We're looking forward to seeing you again, this time with your puppy! We appreciate you noticing the small things we do, like the gluten-free snacks so you don't feel left out (and the specially-baked dog cookies, so they don't feel left out either!) Come back soon!

Our suite was extremely quiet, which we really appreciated. The breakfasts were delicious and generous. We enjoyed the hot tub. The hosts were friendly and personable. We arrived very late, which was well accommodated, but the pullout bed for the kids did not have sheets and there were no sheets to be found in the suite. The kids slept without sheets the first night, and were none the worse for wear, but for $400/night including the taxes and gratuities, you somehow expect sheets. We had a small problem with the bathtub plug, which was rectified immediately. All in all, it was a great experience, and we would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, yet friendly B & B.

We're so happy you enjoyed a nice quiet retreat during your family' visit to Jay Peak. We enjoyed having you during your stay, and especially have fond memories of the whole family enjoying our outdoor hot tub after your days on the mountain! We're sorry our late check-in letter we left for you didn't include the information about the sheets for the sleeper sofa. We're glad we got it corrected the next day, but thanks to your feedback we've changed the letter so it lets everyone coming in after we've gone to sleep know where to find the bedding for that extra bed. We hope we get to see you again soon!
