I live about 1/2 hour from the Barn and my friend and I love this place. Why?
-Every entree on the menu is $13 (including scallops, filet mignon etc) and that includes rolls, veggie medley (not overcooked) and starch option(potato mashed, baked, rice etc). They have a nice selection of reasonably priced appetizers, desserts, wines etc. They also offer an "evening special" which costs more than $13. The food is delicious and well prepared. You get "enough" but don't come away feeling "stuffed" with just the main entree.
-The ambiance is terrific in a restored old barn on a hillside just outside Pawlet (near Dorset and Manchester VT). There are 3 seating options: 1) the bar on the first level feels like a British pub-chummy and relaxed 2) the main dining floor with exposed old wood, vaulted ceiling and a big stone fireplace (we love going in the winter and sitting near that fireplace) 3) the loft- smaller and more intimate.
-The staff is friendly and efficient.
-Dress is as you please...anything from jeans to special occasion wear. You never feel out of place.
-In summer or fall, weekends especially make a reservation. It is a popular place.
So why 4.5 and not 5 stars? While we love the place and have never been disappointed with our meal, I reserve 5 stars for a knock your socks off, really creative, "never tasted anything like it" meal. The choices at the Barn are standard favorites, well prepared in a delightful atmosphere with friendly service. You can't go wrong.
-Our last visit $30 including tax plus tip (filet mignon), for 2 people (no alcohol, appetizers or dessert).
