Description: The Gleanery is a restaurant in the heart of Putney, Vermont. With a primary focus on utilizing ingredients available to us through a strong network of local farmers and producers, we serve thoughtfully sourced, creatively prepared food.

Previously, excellent food came at the price of poor service. That has changed with the Gleanery now offering service that matches its quality food. Local ingredients are well combined. We started by splitting a sprout salad with beet puree and shaved carrots. It was well proportioned and adequate for two. After considerable discussion by us and with our knowledgeable waitperson we settled mains of pasta with caramelized onions and another of beef sausage with dill hollandaise. That meant leaving the rabbit and bronzini for our return which will hopefully be soon. Add the Gleanery to your restaurant list when in the Putney area. Please note it is BYOB with a modest corkage charge.

Dinner is a bit pricey and you have to BYOB, but the food is definetly worth it! Great atmosphere and nice staff!

The Gleanery is a huge addition to Putney, VT, but, beware, it is not your cookie-cutter eatery. The owner is moslem, so you will not find pork, and he does not sell alcohol. It is BYOB, however, and he is happy to uncork for you.
All the food served is locally produced and is really fresh and tasty, hence the name "Gleanery". This is an unforgettable gustatory experience.

Three of us for lunch on a sunny day following 36 hours of snow...facility is beautiful and ambience is just right...the background music was perfect...Al Green was hitting all the right notes ...it's BYOB so be prepared ...the potato and cheddar soup was excellent...curry and root vegetable soup was almost as good..soups were served piping hot in lovely local pottery ...so often that small detail is overlooked...our former vegetarian ordered the burger and she was delighted...perfect size...taste..wow!..one small critical point: aioli needed a bit more oomph!..my grilled cheese sandwich was a gourmet sensation..served with greens and a hint of french(?) dressing...my wife was very happy with her her flatbread with Apple, lentil and arugula...flatbread could have used a little more crunch but she said it was a solid 9/10...coffee was excellent...macaroons for desert were to die for ...service was excellent but a little slow...this is not a criticism because in Vt you need to take into consideration the economic vagaries of the restaurant...price was reasonable...we left the restaurant feeling cared for, well fed and looking foreword to our next visit...tell Liz to crank up the Al Green!

Be prepared for excellent food with slow service.
We came for lunch and were the only diners yet 30 minutes before we were served.
We enjoyed lamb stew, toasted cheese sandwiches and kim chee with rice. All well prepared with wonderful flavor. While we waited seemingly forever a baker walked by with a platter of challah just from the oven so we quickly ordered one to stem the hunger pains. Delicious! We would like to return but bad service with few diners must be awful service with a full house.
