“Unforgettable Family Getaway!”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

We LOVE animals and the country so this getaway was perfect for us! The kids (10,8 and 5) were the happiest and most relaxed I've seen them on a vacation which made me feel the same way! They loved the cows, calves, kittens and the freedom and fresh air at the farm. I highly recommend it to any family that loves animals and wants to experience farm living! Beth and Bob are wonderful hosts and Beth's cooking is amazing!! Yummy!

I was lucky enough to win a weekend stay at Liberty Hill Farm for 4 from Cabot Cheese through Reward Volunteers. Liberty Hill Farm is one of the member farms of the Cabot Co-operative. They are a working dairy farm which provides an opportunity for guests to experience farm life and taste wonderful home-grown and local food.
Our hosts were Beth and her husband Bob, both very warm and welcoming people. From the moment of our arrival we were made to feel like family.
My husband and I were sharing the weekend with our oldest daughter and our 3-year-old granddaughter. In addition to the animals which interested our granddaughter (the large Monmy cows were intimidating to her but she loved the calves and especially the friendly barn cats) there were toys around for Halie's use as well.
Beth gave us great information on the area and we took a wonderful 1 mile hike on the Robert Frost trail, enjoying signs with his poetry at intervals along the trail.
I can't say enough about how wonderful Beth's breakfasts and dinners were! She really spoiled us! All the fresh fruits, vegetables and baked goods, along with meats had us wishing we were like cows with multiple stomachs! We will be talking about the rhubarb kuken for a very long time! We loved the conversations around meals too. Beth made sure that everyone was included in the conversations.
We hated to say goodbye this morning! Beth said such lovely things to us about our family I was in tears! We will definitely be back! I cannot recommend Liberty Hill Farm enough! Thank you Beth and Bob and thank you Cabot Cheese for making this weekend possible. I truly felt pampered and rewarded!

One of my dreams has always been to live on a farm---specifically to milk a cow by hand, the old fashioned way. I have to say that Liberty Hill Farm (Beth and Bob) exceeded all my expectations!
I not only got to milk a cow on the eve of my 50th birthday, but I also got to bottle feed several newborn calves, and witness a birth as well! Bonus!

That aside, what was so heartwarming, was that the farmhouse hospitality (owners BETH and Bob). Beth is an amazing cook! The food she served was out of this world. Each and every meal was a FEAST! I felt like a queen, yet at the same time, I felt like I was back home at my mom's house in Michigan. The desserts were outrageous....and most of the food was local. We had engaging interesting fun conversations, and both my partner, Nancy and I felt completely comfortable and a "part of".

I celebrated my birthday on March 1, 2013. I have thought of Liberty Hill Farm every day since.
I miss my baby cows....Scout, Gracie, Butchie, and Curt (short for Courage). I definitely recommend Liberty Hill Farm, and I plan to go back again. It was an extraordinary adventure!

It's in moments like these that I wish I had the words of a poet to accurately describe my Liberty Hill experience.

I am a South African au pair/nanny who has spent the last ten months in Connecticut. My host mom was kind enough to invite me on a farm getaway with the family for a weekend last summer. And so my Liberty Hill experience began.

Since then, we have made the 5 hour journey 5 times! And we're planning to spend yet another weekend there in May. We simply cannot get enough of Beth and her family...and her food! In the car on the way back home after each stay we have a debate on which dishes were the best. I have not met a better or friendlier cook. Dinners will include dishes such as chicken pot pie, carrot souffle, artichoke casserole, cheesy mashed potatoes....and I won't even start on the desserts. All the food is made from scratch and using only local ingredients. I've been lucky enough to watch Beth at work in the kitchen! I guess I could call myself somewhat of a 'foodie', and I can tell you, Beth's dining room table is my favourite eating spot.

We always visit the farm with the 8 year old girl I take care of. She is a real fan of the whole experience. We are all animal lovers, and we really enjoy watching Beth's husband and sons work with their cows. They have such a love and passion for their animals and always have time to answer any questions the guests come up with. Guests are also welcome to try their hand at milking the cows the old fashioned way. My host family and I really enjoy time in the barn where we get to know the cows or up in the hay loft with the kittens.

Another perk of Liberty Hill, is its location. During our many stays we have always found places and activities to keep us busy; from bookstores to local music jam sessions. We've visited cheese and ice cream stores and have gone skiing and sugaring.

Please note that this is the first review I have posted on the internet. I hope that proves how much I love this home and its family. When I head back to South Africa, it is going to be a hard goodbye.

My husband and I choose Liberty Hill because we read an article in a The Yankee Magazine.( I guess it pays when you spend a lot to advertise). We were the only two guest at the Inn. Because of that we were put up in a room next to the owners office. We had no privacy what so ever. We were told by the owners that they were running short on wood. So they really didn't want to get the wood stove going for the guest side of the house, just for two people. We had no chairs or any seating area. We have stayed at many Bed and Breakfast's and Inns in the past, and have met some wonderful people. This place was different. Our host Beth was not your typical friendly hostest. She is truley a business woman and not what you would expect from the ads. I also felt sad because the cows are chained to their stantion and kept there 24-7. They aren't let out to get exercise.I would definetly not recomend this place. It was way too much money.

We always encourage our guests to come to us with any questions or concerns about the farm! Our top priority is to make sure that our cows are healthy and happy!

We actually rotate the "girls" to make sure that they do not spend the whole day in the milking barn. They spend part of the day in the adjacent barn where they have plenty of room to get some exercise and, when the weather is nice, they are free to explore outside! In the second barn, they have access to food and water, but some of the bigger "boss" cows don't always allow the smaller ones to get their fair share. That's why we give them their own space in the milking barn to ensure that each cow gets a nice, clean place to lay down and plenty of food and water.

After a road rage experience had left me shell shocked in PA, my husband took me to a book store to calm me down- we needed a vacation from the chaos of life! On the way to the coffee section we gabbed a Vermont Life and low and behold Rochester VT was it's feature of the month and LIBERTY HILL FARM was THE place to stay according to the article. That was in 1998, I believe...We have returned to this home away from home and practically raised our kids here year after year, ever since!

This Farm doesn't just offer that oh so cool "real farm" experience, it offers long lingering conversations at the dinner table, warm embraces when you walk through the front door, the smell of fresh baked muffins, hand delivered, from the barn, creamy milk with dessert, and so much love you kinda have trouble leaving. When you return, somehow Beth still knows all your names and all your family details! You matter. You become part of the fold, and you want to be!

KID FACTS: upon our first visit we told the kids all devices go into parental possession until we leave. They were NOT pleased. Next visit our kids just handed over their gadgets when we pulled up to the farm and ran to get their hugs from Beth and Farmer Bob! This farm is transforming...

Wonder what it is like to live and work on a dairy farm? Liberty Hill Farm can give you the ultimate taste of family dairy farm life--as it was and should be able to continue to be. In case the rest of the nation didn't know, this is a very threatened life style in the USA. While you have the chance, this is a wonderful experience for your entire family to have and enjoy.
We loved our stay at Liberty Hill farm with Beth and Bob and their sons. Beth's cooking is wonderful. She served a multiple-course dinner and breakfast for twenty people--there were so many dishes served that I couldn't begin to list them all-- every dish a scrumptious, home-grown, home-made delight.
