“Quiet and peaceful”
Reviewed 27 April 2011

My mother and I were traveling through the New England states and didn't want to miss the mountains in Vermont and to check out a maple sugar farm. I chose Johnnycake Flats through the on-line reviews. It was a beautiful drive though it was still quite cold. We were met first by their dogs Brumby and Lila and then by the owner with hot apple cider, coffe and cookies. The owner was very gracious and interesting, the room was roomy and comfortable though all the rooms were upstairs - we had help carrying our bags up. The was a large living area downstairs with fireplace, books and reading areas. The continental breakfast was generous and the owner's homemade granola was delicious.

Was looking for a B&B in central VT and as a middle-point to Woodstock and Montpelier. This was just right as far as location goes. It was definitely off the beaten path where it took about 25 to 30 mins to get anywhere significant, but it was nice for a change. B&B was very quiet which was nice. Breakfast was good. Innkeepers were helpful and friendly. Would love to see the grounds in the Spring/Summertime to enjoy the ponds and gardens.

We have enjoyed our stays at Johnnycake Flats four years now. The innkeepers, Debra and Jim, have become friends and make us feel like family.

The lovely inn is a pleasant and relaxing place to return after a long day. Decorated in country splendor, the inn is rich in history. The accommodations are very comfortable and we enjoy our fireside chats in the evening.

Debra and Jim will share with you the many sights to visit in the area and the inn is conveniently located near Northfield the home of Norwich University. Great hospitality, you will enjoy your visit to Johnnycake Flats and just wait until you taste Debra’s breakfast muffins….Yummy!

This is by far one of the best Inns that we have experienced!

The Johnnycake Flats Inn is right in the center of Vermont, making it available to all the thinks we love to do. We were able to hike in the beautiful mountains, bike on the quiet country roads, dine in nearby cities, and look forward to a quiet evening around the wood burning sotve. We look forward to coming back in the winter for some skiing and in the summer for more hiking and sightseeing.
The Inn is a quiet oasis, with lovely antiques and a warm, country feeling. The hosts provide you with a delicious breakfast and lots of suggestions and directions for activities and eventsto do in the area. Yet if we wanted to just stay around and rest and relax, this would be just the place. There is a large gathering room with a wood burning stove which provides a quiet retreat to read or have conversation. This bed and breakfast is quiet, clean and right in the heart of New England. Debra and Jim are wonderful hosts and made our stay so comfortable. Did I mention, I can't wait to go back?

The hosts, Debra and Jim, are both friendly and welcoming. The B and B is filled with charming country touches - quilts everywhere, garden flowers everywhere, a relaxing sun porch, and even a couple of friendly border collies (who spend all their time in the barn, never in the home) to play fetch with.

The room itself was very comfortable, and was just lovely. We had the "train room", and enjoyed the passing of the two trains. (Train tracks parallel the road in Northfield area - can't be avoided, and were not a problem at all.) The breakfast was homemade, healthy and delicious. I was thrilled with it --- healthy, and not heavy or rich. (Real yogurt, homemade muffins, fresh-squeezed OJ, sliced strawberries, and cereal selection)

We loved the location, which was just a few milies out of Northfield. Close enough to drive into town if we wanted, but very quiet and relaxing, out in the country. I did a ton of searching on line, and am very confident that in finding this place, we got a very good place for a very good price. We so enjoyed our stay. We absolutely recommend this place!
