“Service was lacking”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

We have always wanted to try one of these restaurants and at first it exceeded our expectation, but then it got really busy and only one girl serving at the bar. The food was very good except that every menu items has calorie intake next to it so can be off putting. We had to wait over 30 mins for a drink, so we left.

“Roadhouse food with a smile”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Stopped at the 99 in Rutland, VT for a sit-down lunch en route from Boston before continuing west to the back roads of the Adirondacks on a "no interstates" road tour. We don't have the 99 chain at home but have read some good things online and wanted to check it out.

In a nutshell, it's pretty standard roadhouse food with a lot of seafood options. I just went for a burger, which turned out not to be roadhouse huge for a change, but that suited me just fine that day. My wife had a clam chowder and salad combo which she said were both tasty and filling (I had to finish her salad). Got back on the road in about 45 minutes for not much more than $20 including the tip. Same old, same old, except they brought us a little basket of free popcorn to munch on while we were waiting for our entrees.

Maybe it was just Vermont, but the one other distinctive thing I can report is that the front door greeter and the wait staff we encountered were particularly cheery and friendly. That makes me want to come back even if the food doesn't stand out.

“Excellent hot food, ice cold Switchback, friendly, polite and quick service, again.”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

On our annual trek to Vermont, we ate here again.

Hillary was our server this time as Lori was off that day. Hillary has a great sense of humor and took our appetizer order right away. Nachos with cheese came out in four minutes and tasted great. They don’t drown them in cheese and a ton of other spices. Simple and to the point.
For our main meal we both got the 12oz sirloin with garlic mashed and broccoli and 23oz Switchback. Beers came out in one minute and were ice cold again.

Medium rare and medium well were the steaks respectively. We didn’t need to cut into them to make sure. Steaks melt in your mouth; we didn’t have to chew a mouthful for twenty minutes. Garlic mashed were excellent because they were hot and the garlic wasn’t overpowering.

Dessert was the raspberry cake item again. Melts in your mouth. Yuuuum!

The orange cake item is gone but the raspberry one is just as good.

The reason why the shrimp Toscana is gone is because of the high cost of shrimp.

That’s okay. Had a great time.

Haven’t been disappointed yet and I’ve learn to expect ice cold beer and great flavors each time.

We’ll be back.

“Filled the gap”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

We are staying @ a hotel within walking distance.
They do offer a large menu, something for everyone.
I ordered the back-yard bbq.
It had beef tips, bbq chicken breast, & ribs.
This was accompanied by broccoli & red skinned mashed potatoes.
The beef tips were not edible.
I chewed, chewed, & chewed.
That bite ended up in my napkin because it was rubber!
The chicken was ok- edible at least, and the same w/ the ribs.
The potatoes were loaded w/ garlic- too much for my liking, but each to their own.
The broccoli was fine.
If we lived here, we wouldn't be back for a long time, if ever.
For tonight, it filled the gap.
