“this place sucks”
Reviewed 17 June 2013

Where to start? All the other negative reviews are accurate: the service is surly, the room is stinky, dirty and rundown; amenities and facilities don't exist, the pool is closed. Walls are paper thin; luckily the guys next door and their two hunting dogs kept quiet all night. I guess it's a "pet-friendly" hotel. I wish I'd checked TripAdvisor before booking this place. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Room Tip: There are none.

We stayed in this hotel for all of about 5 minutes and it was still the worst hotel experience we have ever had. The room was old, questionably clean, had broken furniture, reeked of mildew and cigarette smoke, and for ambiance, there was a racoon-sized animal chewing and clawing somewhere up in the ceiling. We immediately checked out, or tried to - the front desk staff was "unauthorized" to deal with an early departure or refund, and the manager was "unavailable"... for us or the folks at Choice customer service. We left and followed another family who likewise was leaving upon checkin - also stiffed for the first night - down the road to the very nice Quality Inn. Choice Hotels did refund us, but shame on them for putting their name on this place and allowing the management to fleece folks - next time we'll check the reviews no matter what name brand we're booking!

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.

This place is a dump. When we got the first room the sheets were dirty. We changed rooms and the next room was freezing.Bathroom
was discusting and cold.It took about 2 hours to heat the room, but the bathroom never heated up even after all night. The only good thing I can say is that the people at the front desk were friendly. This is the worst place I have ever stayed.

Wow. This was probably the worst lodging experience I've had outside of a filthy, dank pensione in a tiny Italian village. It was parents' weekend at the University of Vermont, so there were no rooms available anywhere. We literally had to find a place to sleep or stay in the rental car. I wish we had. Stayed in the car, that is. After calling tons of places that were booked, we felt lucky to get a room. We were quoted a rate of $169 by the clerk. When we got there, the owner told us we were indeed lucky, because if the clerk hadn't given us that rate, he had been going to raise it by $100. He seemed proud to be able to announce that he was getting ready to gouge the next customer. Whatever. Supposedly it was a non-smoking room. It reeked of cigarettes. The floor was filthy. I literally felt dirt on the bathroom floor and walked on towels the entire time. Which left me with only 1 towel, because they provide just 2. Only three lumpy pillows for a king-sized bed, too. No extra pillows or blankets. The bathroom was a wreck; peeling linoleum, holes in the walls. Yuck. The carpet felt like it hadn't been cleaned in years, too. We had a kitchenette, which was supposedly one of the reasons for the high price of the room. It contained NOTHING. Not a spoon, not a cup, not a paper towel. NOTHING. We survived the night, but again, I would have felt less gross sleeping in the car. As if all this weren't enough, the owner came knocking at the door at 10:30 (check out is 11). He said he just wanted to see if "everything was okay". Like we might not vacate his disgusting property on time. That was the last straw. Oh, except that when we were leaving, I saw that he provides SHOPPING CARTS to his maids to haul their sheets and cleaning gear around. This totally exemplifies the experience of this Econo Lodge: Like being a vagrant. I felt like I needed a shower when we left. Fortunately, our second night in town, we were able to get a room at the wonderful T-Bird Motor Lodge. Their proprietor is a sweetheart, not a slum lord. We paid $30 less for a pristine room there. Don't get me wrong; I know that when you stay at a motel, you're not getting the Four Seasons. But I do think $169 should buy you decency and cleanliness.

Room Tip: Since we supposedly had a "suite" in this hell hole, I'm guessing there are no good ro...
