“Like stepping back in time”

The Maple Crest is an amazing place for "flatlanders" like me. Donna and her husband are true Vermonters, whose family has lived in this big brick farmhouse for generations. Walking into their home is like stepping back in time. It could just as easily be 1934 in my room, which was wonderful. Breakfast is a communal treat with all the guests at the table sharing stories. I have travelled extensively in Southern Vermont over the years, and the country lanes in Shrewsbury are awesome---great to hike! The Appalachian trail is also close if you'd like to do that. This working farm preserves VT the way it used to be, right down to the 3300 gallons of syrup they produced last year. And for $50 for a single, a real bargain!

This is a lovely old working farm set conveniently off the beaten path. We stayed for one night and enjoyed a clean and comfortable room. The room was on the second floor and faced the road, but my sleep was deep and uninterrupted. Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious! Donna is a delightful soul and a wealth of knowledge.
This is a beautiful old farmhouse not a trendy Inn. Trendy inn's are easy to find, this is a hidden jewel. It is a warm, inviting, well loved home that the Smith's choose to share.
Before we left we were able to purchase some maple and beef products from the farm.
What a great find. We will visit again soon.

What a warm welcome we got from Donna, a lovely woman with a beautiful maple syrup farm and B&B. You'll find the old English style of decoration with all kinds of antique in the rooms. We got the room downstairs which is quite big and has a seating and toilet too. The bathroom is upstairs. At the time there were no other guests so we had the place to ourselves. Donna made the best breakfast with American pancakes and ofcourse maple syrup. Eggs are also an option. We can really advise this place. We used it as a stop between Boston and Waterbury on our way to Canada. A visit worthwhile.

If you are looking for genuine old Vermont hospitality, lodging & wonderful breakfast, including their own fine Maplecrest Maple Syrup,, this is the place to stay. Clearly not your plush upscale B&B with all of the comforts of the city, but one that has all of the charms of the Vermont of the past 200 yrs. Every nook & cranny of this inn is intriguing & Donna & Bill Smith share their stories of this property, the whole Shrewsbury area even New England, when given the opportunity. The rooms are quiet, & clean & the breakfast everything you would hope to find at a Vt. B&B. Do not miss thethe stroll down the lane next to the inn to the historic cemetery.....or across the road down the lane past the old church & the sugar shed. The vistas at Maplecrest & up over the moiuntain to Rt.100 are exactly as pictured in N.E. magazines. Been there 5 times & hope to make it 6 !!

We rented a home not too far away in the summer and we're struck by the picturesque beauty of this farm and the 1808 farmhouse so we stopped to inquire and met the innkeepers, Donna Smith and her husband. This home and farm have been in the same family for over 200 years and they have been taking guests for most of that time. Stunning Americana. She makes a wonderful breakfast, the sitting rooms are lovely, the place is clean and truly like visiting your family. There are only a couple of rooms with a bath, the Smith's are preserving the main rooms of the house, but there are several wonderful two room combinations for families with bathroom or full bath and kitchen.
The location, value and honest and sincere hosts, true Vermonters, make this a wonderful choice. We have this place permanently marked as a go.

Room Tip: If you have a family try the apt. If your a couple try the first floor room with it 's own bath...
