We first visited Topnotch October 2012 right before they started the renovation, and were extremely pleased to see what it looked like when visiting this December. The lobby and entrance area is modern and open, and the new addition of the Roost (lounge, bar and eatery) is a perfect hang out place to nosh on food, sip drinks and enjoy the fireplace. We had excellent breakfast in Flannel each day and enjoyed their bar as well.

The room (Deluxe King) was beautifully decorated: comfortable, modern, laid-back and with a beautiful view to the mountain. Comfortable bed and loved the turndown service with chocolate and water bedside. Service is fabulous throughout the hotel.

Highly recommend this place to those who enjoy modern hotels with top service, food and rooms. Family friendly and relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy adult beverages and have a good time.

Room Tip: Executive rooms are on the top floor. Ask for a view to the mountain.

We stayed here in October - despite a review to the contrary, the rooms were all redecorated with brand new carpets and furniture. Lovely views from the window - especially at night with the fire flares in the garden.
Spa also has apparently been renovated with a heated indoor pool and massage facilities etc. - lovely setting.
We did have a couple of issues however - the dinner in Flannel was a bit of a disappointment with the food - especially for the price. It was also a birthday dinner for one of the party and a cake had been organised, however this didn't appear. We gathered it was because we had two courses, but no dessert. We decided to go to the bar after dinner for an espresso, however the lass there said she didn't know how to work the coffee machine !
We can understand that it would be very hard to find staff in this area however we would have thought coffee training would have been provided by the management.
Apart from those issues however it was a great stay in the fall with the wonderful view of the trees with all their colours.

We have been to Topnotch for three of the last four Thanksgivings and this was our best stay yet. The new lobby bar is very welcoming and open for guests of all ages and feels modern while still maintaining that ski lodge feel. Our two bedroom townhouse was not available and they immediately upgraded us to a 3 bedroom home. A beautiful place up on the hill but a little far to walk in the 4 degree cold.

This was our second time staying at Topnotch. If you like modern, sleek renovations then you'll enjoy it. Plus, the resort is dog friendly and we saw many dogs staying there. If you're looking for a ski resort with a winter outdoor pool then go to Spruce Mtn. Lodge. If you're looking for classic elegance, amazing breakfast, cross country skiing and snowshoeing then go to Trapp. They are all in a comparable price range.
Pros for Topnotch: The spa really is amazing. Excellent service, tons of services to choose from, great facility, awesome fitness center with cardio, Cybex and more, and a dance/yoga/pilates studio. The indoor pool is small but the sitting area around the pool is nice and they have a great indoor Jacuzzi. Plus, the spa has private sections for males and for females which are world class. They even have a couple pooch pampering services in the spa since it's a dog friendly resort. The service of everyone at the hotel is great. We had a storm and when we came out in the morning our car had already been cleaned off. Very comfortable beds. Our room was very clean. Very cool Lord of the Rings cauldron torches are light up around the property at night.
Things to be aware of: The rooms have been re-done and are nice. We found it very similar to a Hampton Inn in our room. Wicked small bathroom so maybe ask about that when you make a reservation. The two restaurants have limited menus but the food is good. They have a small outdoor pool and a very small outdoor Jacuzzi in the winter but they are NOT hot enough. We found that true on both our visits. The heater in our room clicked like popcorn through the night when it was on so sleeping was difficult. Plus, the windows are still the old windows. You could hear the wind blowing through one of our windows through the two nights we were there. There aren't any towel racks for big towels in the bathroom so you're forced to leave them for daily washing.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 3rd floor for quiet and a vaulted ceiling. Rooms overlooking the driveway...

I stayed at Topnotch just before Thanksgiving with my husband and mother. We had a great relaxing weekend. The facilities are all in excellent condition--room was clean and newly decorated and the spa area looked exactly like the photos on the website. I gave this resort an 'excellent' rating because the service was actually top notch throughout--very polite, friendly and welcoming staff! We had a small mix up with an order during dinner and the manager came over to apologize and discounted our bill (without us even asking!) We also brought our dog with us and this is really a pet friendly resort--they provided a dog bed, food & water bowls, and welcome treats. Unlike some other places we have stayed with our dog, Topnotch is extremely clean and spotless so you don't need to worry if you are not traveling with a pet.

Room Tip: We booked a room in the main building which we preferred because you do not need to walk outside to...

My family usually takes a trip to Vermont right before Thanksgiving. We were trying a new place by visiting Stowe an topnotch resort. The resort is beautiful and serene. My kids, 7 and 5, loved the indoor and outdoor pools. Our room was big enough for the 4 of us. It was nicely decorated and bathroom was spacious. We also enjoyed hanging out after dinner at Roost where the kids played shuffleboard and we could have a glass of wine. The spa was perfect. Lovely facilities and the treatment I had was great. Overall wonderful trip and can't wait to go back.

WOW I can't say enough about how spectacular this resort was and how incredible Vermont is. The people of Vermont are truly the nicest most accommodating folks on the planet. I have traveled to many places around the world and was blown away with people’s sincerity and their accommodating hospitality. The people of Vermont are truly awesome!!!

The other stand out thing about Vermont is the incredible quality of FOOD and the focus on sustainability and eating local. It was so refreshing to see restaurants and even grocery stores embracing a whole local approach to food. I think that Vermont is a real working example of the kind of food communities we should be exercising all across North America.

Firstly the resort is stunning and the facilities are beautiful. It’s impossible to not relax and unwind in the serene setting. Our room was greatly appointed with all the comforts that you need and the bed was AMAZING with beautiful linens.

Both the Roost and Flannel provided superior food options. The kale bruschetta and fried avocado on the small bites menu were so tasty like all the items. The wait staff at the restaurants were incredible and they really went out of their way to provide the best service. Each meal was delicious.

The staff at Topnotch resort was outstanding. It exceeded my expectation and every staff member went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. Glen at the front desk was absolutely amazing always providing "topnotch service". Glen helped my fiancé with an engagement that happened during our stay and made the experience so special. Logan was wonderful and took us back and forth from town, giving some recommendations along the way. Carol is a phenomenal concierge with so much knowledge about the area and is such an asset to the team. Her years of experience and her charming demeanor make it a pleasure to talk with her to plan outings and experiences. We have decided to get married at the resort in Stowe in March and I have to say that a big part of the decision was the staff and knowing how well we our guests would be taken care.

If you have any transit needs call Tim at Nantucket Transit Company. He was so friendly and we engaged in some great conversation, but again he went the extra mile stopping at a few places along the way to Waterbury. He even printed out a map for us and called the bus company to which we were traveling on back to Burlington to, to ensure we had the right information and that we would get on the right bus.

These types of people, are what make communities what they are, and Vermont is full of warm people that really want to show you their beautiful state and make your trip really remarkable.

If you haven't been to Vermont you need to go and go soon because it's a truly special place. Staying at the Topnotch will make the trip more then you could have ever expected! This was one of the very best trips I have ever been on.
