“Great, rejuvenating Spa ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014 via mobile

The spa at TopNotch was a perfect anecdote to this city dweller's need to get away for R&R. With snow-capped mountains in the background, I had a perfect Swedish massage, relaxed in the hot tub and swam laps in the indoor , heated pool. My main complaint would be the number of children running around in the pool area - kind of killed the mood by mid-afternoon!

Hard to call this hotel a ski lodge - more like a Manhattan boutique hotel. The staff is attentive and the food outstanding. A top notch spa is just icing on the cake. Hot tub bar service is also a big plus. Warning though, Don't stay in the main hotel in a room that faces the back driveway.
I would never stay in this type of room again due to its proximity to the back driveway. I realize that they have to plow the snow in the morning, but after only one inch of new snow one night the plow driver went by 5 times between 6am and 6:45am, scraping his plow along the non-snow covered driveway. 2 words: EXCESSIVE PLOWING! Make sure you face the courtyard, plus if it's clear you will have a nice mountain view.

Room Tip: Third floor facing the mountain.

We have been frequent guests at Topnotch over the past 20 years. Our first stay was for a corporate outing, and we have been going back ever since that time. Although the resort has changed (for the better!) through the years, the one thing that has not changed is the people who staff the resort. The staff is accommodating, friendly, and they genuinely care about making your stay enjoyable. We have stayed in many different rooms, including the town homes, and especially with the upgrades to the property, our accommodations have always been great. We have a dog, and this is one resort which caters to animals, and handles the added dimension with professionalism and care.
We are members of the spa, and it is very well-managed. The spa staff will go out of their way to be sure your needs are met. I have been meaning to post for a few years now, and decided to post because we had an emergency situation last weekend when we needed to book a last minute room. The reservations team took great care of us, and we ended up in a beautiful town home. I always think to post a positive recommendation, but then get too busy and forget. After this last stay, I decided I owe the team at Topnotch a big thank you. I highly recommend a stay at Topnotch during your next visit to Stowe.

We, an extended family of 5 adults and a 14 year old, planned a quick weekend trip to VT to celebrate a birthday. The 3 bedroom home at Top Notch that we rented could not have been better.

The accommodation was excellent, 3 good sized bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, a living/dining area, fully fitted kitchen and a decent sized deck (Which was not used due to the snow). The furniture was nice, beds comfortable, fireplaces wonderful and amenities first class, we will definitely be back. We enjoyed the convenience of a hotel with the room to spread out and come together as a larger group.

This is an ideal place for families or groups of friends. The rooms were big and the common spaces really comfortable. There were enough plates, cups, glasses etc to cover all of our needs and a dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven, hob and microwave.

the first night after travelling for 6 hours was spent at home with a Chinese Takeaway (Sanfo was good and inexpensive) and a few beers in front of the Fireplace. Although we did not use it there was a full entertainment system including DVD, VCR and whole house music.

I cannot comment on the hotel as we did not use it at all. The staff at the check-in desk were friendly and helpful.

This was our 1st family trip to Stowe Mountain. & will not be our last..thanks to TopNotch Resort!
We stayed in a 3 bedroom home & walking distance from Resort lobby/pool/spa etc. Let’s get started:
Staff-one word AWESOME! They will do anything in their power to make you feel more comfortable, or answer any request! Have to give it up to our boy John!! Trucked us to & from the mountain. & brought us into town to stop at a few stores! Who does this?? TOPNOTCH! (Only $36 a day extra for the amenities & its very worth it)
Pool/Spa-Great! After a day on the mountain all you want to do is hop in the hot tub inside, or go outside! Doesn't get any better. Towels are stocked & resort service will serve you drinks/food poolside.
Food-We ate at The Flannel located right on the resort & there is nothing bad about this what so ever! Table of 10 & we ordered burgers to prime rib & everything was cooked just right & it didn't matter how tired we were the food kept you up!
Location-Perfect! a shuttle that takes you to & from (ask front desk) is great. Staff will load up your gear & your off! When you done...call the resort & your ride is there in 5-10 minutes (grab an extra drink @ the bar)...
Do us all a favor & book your trip to Stowe & stay at TopNotch!! You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I had such a nice long weekend in Stowe at Topnotch.
We drove in from Boston with our dog, which was the deciding factor in choosing Topnotch.

We were so pleased with the service (driver taking us downtown for dinner, to the mountain for skiing, and the hotel staff sharing dog treats for our pup), the impeccably clean and comfortable room, and the hot tub/heated pool.

We'd recommend this to anyone and stay here again in a heartbeat!!

Room Tip: It's a great plus that this hotel is dog-friendly, those rooms are limited to the first floor (w...

I want to write a review for the folks out there who are trying to figure out whether to go west or stay east for a family ski trip. If you are like us, you really love the nice cozy restaurants, the festive spirit/scene of the season out west, the nice place to return to that feels lovely, but not pretentious. For us, Top Notch really fit the bill. We LOVED the staff. A lot has been written about how great they are and I want to echo that sentiment. You do not realize how important the staff/hospitality component is until you are with your young children in the midst of a polar vortex.
Each and every person was so willing and happy to provide transport when we needed it to and from the mountain. In one case, we had literally just arrived and realized that we could not brace the elements. Happily, they helped us re-route our detour off the slopes and to the Ben and Jerry factory.
We stayed in a villa that was not one of the renovated ones. I'm a picky hotel guest and I must admit that I had to really let go to embrace the villa we stayed in. I knew we were not in the one of the nicer set-ups when I made the booking so I had to just keep reminding myself that I elected not to pay the higher price. I say this to give a heads up to those who are trying to decide whether to spring for the newer condo's. If 1980's floral calico prints and bath tubs with jets unsettle you, spring for the Overlook or try to stay in the main hotel building. The older condos are, however, closer to the hotel so that is a perk. I got over the wood paneling enough to appreciate the short walk to the indoor pool.
We ate at the in-house restaurant, Flannel, a few times and thought it was good, not great. Service is so, so nice. I would recommend grabbing the quick buffet breakfast in the bar area as Flannel tends to be a bit slow in the morning.
The spa is AMAZING. Highly recommend an appointment there. I don't like the policy that one can't use the spa locker room if you have not booked a service. If you use the work out room, you have to return to your room to shower. I've never encountered this policy in any other fine hotel and hope that Top Notch will revisit that rule.
We enjoyed night dog-sledding with the children immensely. We did the 20 minute which was perfect for us. You can do a longer ride that is a longer drive. The horse-drawn sleigh ride across the street is $$ but worth it if you want to feel like Dr. Zhivago. The people who run that operation are kind and provide a great winter tour through the Vermont woods. I'd go in the evening if you can. Also, don't miss the cross country skiing if you are a fan. I hear that you can ski a trail at Von Trapp Lodge to a nice place for lunch. Will do that next time. We skied at Stowe Nordic and thought the trails were well-groomed and fantastic.
As for restaurants, we thought Crop (in town) was the best with Piecasso right up there. Piecasso doesn't take reservations so go early.
All in all, I was so glad we decided to stay east this year. We had a great trip which is why we are returning for President's weekend.
