We spent 3 nights at the Trapp Family Lodge the week before Christmas, and we were most pleased with our choice. Our room was wonderfully appointed and clean, the beds were luxuriously comfortable (fantastic and cordial turn-down service), and every encounter we had with the staff was cheerful and friendly. Wow, the holiday decorations were beautiful! It snowed quite a bit, but the driveway and parking lot were always well-cared for with salt/cinders, the swimming pool and hot tub are both worth the short walk from the Lodge, and we all enjoyed the memorabilia throughout the Lodge, as well as the documentary on Maria followed by a fun viewing of "The Sound of Music". It's an easy hop by car into Stowe, and it was such a nice feeling to return to the Lodge each late afternoon and relax in its warmth and coziness. We'll definitely visit again! Thanks for a terrific vacation.

We enjoyed our Mozart Suite at the Trapp Family Lodge it was very clean upon entering but servicing during the stay was not up to snuff. We had less than 1/3 roll of TP when we arrived with no extra in cabinet. We called and they brought 2 rolls right up. The turndown personnel was great she got us more coffee and cups as well as soap and shampoo. The biggest problem was the shower water temperatures jumped between extremely hot to extremely cold while you are in the shower. I reported it but I don't know for sure if they did anything about it the last day I still noted some temperature variation but not to the extremes that we had experienced earlier in the stay. I found the bed very uncomfortable and woke with a sore neck 3 out of 4 days. The room was pricey but had many ameneties. Heated bathroom floor - love that. Whirlpool tub - yeah! Nice basket of shampoo, cream, and bath salts etc. Keurig coffee maker with plenty of K-cups for regular and decaf coffee (However, I missed having tea in my room and I forgot mine). Refrigerator and table for eating. Desk - free good WIFI!!!!! Good cable channel collection. Door to outside but too cold to use it. Health and fitness center offered yoga daily ($15), has a great indoor pool, hot tub outside. Food at the lodge is good but very pricey and the variety was small. Once you get up the mountain and bad weather starts you are Trapp(ed) into their food variety and prices. Their own brewed beer was very good ($5). I had spaetzle and cheese (like mac'n cheese) one night for dinner $9. Wiener Schnitzel was very good at $29. an order. I had a special scallop dinner that was $27. but very good. Tea and cookies were provide in the lounge between 3:30 and 4:30PM every afternoon free for guests and modestly priced for non-guest (3.75). There is a movie every night at 8PM. Don't miss the 30 minute documentary of the Trapp family downstairs in their theatre. The bell staff were great they cleaned off the car(snow) for us when we were departing. A conservation fee was charged $1. per night without asking and I know this is optional and can be removed from the bill but I did not request their removal.

Thank you for reviewing your stay at our resort. Thank you for letting us know that some of the necessary amenities were not well stocked in your suite and had to be requested. We appreciate knowing that this issue was immediately addressed to your satisfaction. We are delighted you enjoyed your Austria Suite in the Millennium Wing of our hotel. The problem you encountered with fluctuating water temperatures in your shower was reported to and followed up by our Maintenance Department immediately upon learning of the problem. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our Director of Lodging and Guest Services will check the mattress in the suite and take the proper steps to replace it if need be. Thank you for mentioning our WiFi is good - we are pleased we can offer this to our guests free of charge. Your compliments of our food offerings will be shared with our Executive Chef, Kim Lambrechts. Trapp Lager, our own beer brewed on site, is a favorite of many guests and we look forward to the planned expansion of our brewery in the near future. Tea and cookies is a lodge favorite with both adults and children and falls in line with the Austrian background of the von Trapp's who enjoyed this tradition in their home before opening the lodge to guests in the 1960's. Thank you for supporting the Vermont Land Trust by approving the $1 donation fee requested of our guests with, as you mention, the option to remove it from the bill. Stowe Land Trust has worked in concert with Trapp Family Lodge, as well as other properties in Stowe, to preserve the treasured open land and forests so many of our visitors enjoy. We hope to welcome you back to our resort again! Rebecca

We were completely disappointed with our stay at the Von Trapp Lodge. Our fascination with The Sound Of Music led us to the Von Trapp Lodge because of its affiliation with the musical. Our room was dirty and beat up. Obviously, at $350 a night, we would expect to have a clean room. The light colored carpet in the room looked like a herd of muddy zebra had walked through the room at some point. We tried to overlook the filth and undesirable atmosphere because we were really excited about all of the different activities and amenities that were supposed to be provided. The free movie about Maria Von Trapp is simply a TV program from the 1980s shown in the basement of the hotel. And of course they have the most uncomfortable folding chairs in the world for seating in the "theater."

Moving on to the food in the restaurant, my advice again is to skip it. The food was mediocre at best and was very expensive.

There were two things that kept me from rating this hotel as horrible. The first were all of the interesting Sound of Music and Von Trapp photos and artifacts in the hallways. The other was the pool down the hill in the fitness center. The pool was very big and was a lot of fun for kids. My suggest is to simply visit the hotel, stroll the halls to see the photos and artifacts and watch the free showing of the "movie" if you really like the whole Von Trapp family story.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a "private" deck.

We are sorry that some aspects of your stay were disappointing. While I can assure you we do not expose our rooms to a "herd of muddy zebras", we do take your comments seriously and have made sure our Executive Housekeeper thoroughly checks rooms before releasing them for occupancy. St. George's Hall is where we show the documentary film about Maria von Trapps last visit to Austria. The film is very poignant as she describes how she and her family left Austria and fled to the US during WWII and continued their famous career as The Trapp Family Singers. The film is extremely popular with guests of all ages. St. George's Hall is not referred to as a "theater" by the resort and is used for multiple purposes such as meetings, holiday special events in addition to the location for showing the documentary. We are sorry our dining options did not meet your expectations. Our Executive Chef has been made aware of your comments. We are glad you enjoyed the Sound of Music memorabilia throughout the hotel but must clarify this is for our resort guests; however, the public is invited to join history tours at scheduled times throughout the week which include the viewing of the documentary and an interesting talk by one of our staff who is knowledgeable about the family's story. The history tour is joined at the end by one of the von Trapp's for a question and answer session. Information about the tours is available at our website and by calling Trapp Family Lodge. Rebecca

I love the "Sound of Music" and was so curious about the Trapp Lodge--so quaint and beautiful up a secluded mountain road out of town. The view is amazing and the Lodge itself is very lovely. They have a nice breakfast buffet for $20 per person. It included both hot and cold items and some excellent pastries. The gift shop sells "Sound of Music" items and the Trapp maple syrup--the best I have ever tasted! Our room had a small balcony and the bed was excellent. This would be a great place for a Christmas holiday. They had lovely decorated Christmas trees and gingerbread houses in the lobby. Picture perfect!

We just returned from our stay at the Trapp Family Lodge. We traded our timeshare through Interval International for one of the guest houses, Sunday to Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised at the roominess of our accommodations. Our guesthouse was recently refurbished . Two bedrooms and 2 full baths( one in the master) and another pull out couch. Our adult children came for a few days ,with 6 of us there was plenty of room. We had a nice living room and kitchen table area where we all spent time in front of the wood stove. Plenty of wood for our daily fires as we watched the snow fall .the kitchen had everything we needed. Great views from our room. The staff were wonderful. We had to call laundry on 2 occasions and they promptly responded. We were close to the brewery/deli and were treated well by Tim and Gretechan .Its a great place for a brew, soup and sandwich. The staff in the main lodge also were pleasant. The fitness center was great to have . The pool and hot tub were nice and clean. We ate in the lodge lounge, at Harrison's and Piecasso's. all very good. Overall, a pleasant time in Stowe.

We spent a long weekend at Trapp with our three kids (7,6, and 3) in a two bedroom in the main lodge. We were extremely disappointed in the room, which, while spacious, was incredibly outdated. For the money we spent, I expected to be in a room with modern amenities and updated furniture, linens, and window treatments. Not even close. Everything in the lodge screams "Trapp Family", which is unique in the beginning but overkill in the end.
The new fitness center, however, is amazing, and well worth the experience. The indoor pool is incredible. The yoga room was perfect (Alisha's class is a must!). The outdoor hot tub leaves a lot to be desired - surrounded by a crappy old fence that doesn't let you experience the beautiful vista of the mountains around you.
There are many places to escape to in the main lodge should you not be satisfied with your room - family room, game room, library, etc. (most with fireplaces). And the grounds are beautiful, so expect to want to spend most of your stay outdoors. We are frequent travelers to Stowe, but this was our first trip to Trapp. We would be tempted to try a guest house next time in order to take advantage of the fitness center/indoor pool and the hiking trails, but only in the winter, as the outdoor pools looked like they were in need of some serious work. In the end, if you are a lover of the Trapp Family history and don't care about modern amenities, stay in the lodge and plan on spending most of your stay at the new fitness center and hiking the amazing grounds!

Room Tip: As for an updated room (if there are any!)

My husband and I stayed at the lodge over Veterans weekend. We loved it! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our room was great and cozy. The main lodge was fun to explore along with the grounds.Complementary coffee in the morning was nice and strong and the afternoon tea and cookies hit the spot after a fun day . I wish that we were there a different time of year to enjoy the snow but we still had a great time. We're already planning our next visit!
