“Summer time in Stowe it is magic”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

I had been to this property and stayed at one of the Villas. We were able to do so again, and it was excellent. We took full advantage of the pools indoor and out, the spa, and the hiking trails. We spent a lovely Sat lunch time at the new brewery eatery, having a watermelon and goat cheese salad, with a flight of taster beers from the Trapp Brewery, which was all excellent. There was live music as well. Views all over this property are the best and ever changing. On the road up to the villas as well as in a field near the brewery are resident pigs, which were new to us this time, they provide great fresh products and when we spoke to the lady feeding them she told us about the resort having resident chickens as well, which provide over 100 eggs per day. Love that they are doing this. I try each time to visit the chapel and although the forecast for Sunday was rain, I did do a 2 hour circuit of the trails before it poured and the signage with my map in hand were very helpful. I could have spent many hours doing more loops of the wooded area had the weather been more promising. I love this place and seem to breath easier while there and it restores m energy for a few weeks afterwards.

Room Tip: Check if there are any outdoor concerts in the summer at the meadow, this is an amazing place to lis...

Thank you for such a wonderful review of your recent stay with us. Your testimonial that " you breathe easier while here and that your stay restores your energy for weeks" is a goal we strive for with our guests. We are glad to know how much your enjoyed your lunch and the live music at the DeliBakery as well as the flights of our Trapp Lager! Our farm-to-table offerings are increasing yearly and we are learning that these type of offerings are very much in demand from our dining clientele. Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed this aspect of your visit. We look forward to welcoming you back to our resort in the future! Rebecca

WOW! What can I say about this beautiful location that provides serenity and activities all in one! The surroundings and views are one of a kind and truly make you feel like you are in Austria. The Lodge does a great job educating guests on the rich history of the area and Trapp family.

We stayed in the lodge for a week and enjoyed being able to feel as if we were in a home away from home. Having a kitchen and all amenities was a great feature that didn't leave us with the "eating out ever meal woes". The only downfall the lodges is the no air conditioning. This usually is NO problem at all, except this past week when we went the weather decided to be a little different and was in the 70s at night with high humidity. Guest services quickly delivered 2 fans when we realized our friends had fans but we did not. The staff's service is unbeatable.

Will be back in the future for another great vacation.

Room Tip: Some lodges have Sat-Sat rentals and others have Sun-Sun rentals (depends on location- Sun/Sun renta...

Dear Endlesstravel1410,

Thank you for the wonderful review of your stay with us here at Trapp Family Lodge. I am glad that you were able to enjoy both the serenity and activities that we offer to our guests! I was thrilled to read that you will be returning for another stay in our Guest Houses as well. While our Guest Houses do not currently have air conditioning, we are working on a plan that will outfit all of the Guest House units with air conditioning as we do realize the importance of offering this amenity to each and every one of our guests. That being said, I do want to make sure that I differentiate between the Guest Houses and the Lodge as our Main Lodge, which is the hotel portion of our property, does offer air conditioning in almost all units. Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments; we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Best regards,

Ryan Krukar

The grounds at Trapp Family Lodge are beautiful! We also enjoyed hearing new to us bits of the Trapp's family story via the documentary of the Real Maria (they show in St. George's Hall). I'm a big fan of The Sound of Music, but even my husband couldn't help himself from humming tunes from the soundtrack during our stay. I also loved our balcony in the main lodge. Great view!
Note: The giant gluten free cookies at the DeliBakery are YUM.

Thank you for your lovely review! We are so pleased that you enjoyed learning about the actual story of the von Trapp's and their escape from Austria in 1938 from the Nazi occupation. The "Maria" story is a wonderful documentary that is especially touching in that the story is told in Maria's own words. It is the highlight of the von Trapp History Tour. The view is part of the reason the von Trapp's settled here; it reminded them so much of their Austrian homeland. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our resort again. Rebecca

Stayed for one night only, traveling through Vermont - on a whim, as the 6 and 8 year old grandgirls had recently been in a school production of "the Sound of Music". It was a surprise for them - and perfect! Service was excellent courteous and prompt. Lots to do there and in the area even without snow, and we only scratched the surface. Fantastic lodge room overlooking the valley, great walking trails direct from the property. Wiil return with more time to soak it all in!

Room Tip: Overlooking the valley is preferred.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us. We are delighted that you had a memorable time with your family and your granddaughters were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the von Trapp's hotel that is located where their original homestead was when they settled in VT in 1942. I hope you were able to take the von Trapp History Tour that shares the actual story of the von Trapp family and their escape from Nazi occupied Austria in 1938. We hope you are able to enjoy our resort again and perhaps enjoy our cross-country ski and snowshoe trails or a horse-drawn sleigh ride in our meadows! Rebecca

We stayed here on July 11 and 12, 2014. The staff was superb, the hotel was quite nice and the setting is beautiful. We enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The Trapp Family Lodge also has many many photos of the Trapp Family and some historical notes about them. If you have not watched The Sound of Music in recent years do that before you visit as it will add much to your enjoyment. Can't go wrong with this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit with us. We are delighted that you enjoyed our setting and family history. Many of our guests do not realize the family that owns our resort is the family upon which "The Sound of Music" is based. This famous movie was actually based on a book written by Maria von Trapp, "The Story of The Trapp Family Singers". Thank you for recommending us. Cheers! Rebecca

"The Sound of Music" not withstanding, this is an elegant resort in the European tradition. We were greeted warmly by all of the staff and the resort offered all day activities. This was a classy place. Our room overlooked the front of the lodge and had a beautiful view of the mountains. We were only there for one night but we would have liked to stay for more.
Our only disappointment was the quality of the food. Our dinner was unfortunately uninteresting and the breakfast was a buffet which had trouble keeping the eggs warm.

We stayed at the main house of the Trapp Family Lodge in 2013. We had a lovely room on the second floor with a spectacular mountain view. Door from the room to large wraparound deck serving all rooms on this floor was a nice spot to relax and enjoy the view The lodge is beautifully appointed and very well run. Trapp family photos and memorabilia add a wonderful touch especially for sound of music fans.. Breakfast and dinner in the lodge dining room were consistently excellent thorough our stay. Visited their brewery/bakery combination which was ten minute walk from the lodge. Beautifully maintained grounds throughout the property With nice spa and pool in the complexes Outdoor Center. Biking and hiking trails abound. We loved our stay here.. .

Room Tip: Second floor rooms facing mountains are great, Some rooms have private deck.

Thank you for lettings us know your meals were excellent and that you liked " The Sound of Music" and von Trapp history memorabilia tastefully placed in areas of the hotel.
