“Awesome views and cross country skiing”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

This is an awesome lodge with a ski shop attached. There is plenty to do on site.
It is a bit overpriced. The hotel food was ok but not worth the price. Go into town and have meals there, much nicer places.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay in 2013. We are delighted you were able to enjoy our lodge, cross-country skiing (55k of groomed/tracked trails of all abilities) and other activities. HOpe you had a chance to soak in our outdoor hot tub that overlooks the Worcester Mountains and valleys. We are sorry you were disappointed in our menu offerings. We have a new Director of Food and Beverage and Executive Chef who has revamped our menus at all three food outlets. Hope to welcome you back again this winter! Rebecca

This lodge blends Old World charm with all the modern amenities to please and delight travelers of all ages. The scenery, the varied choice of activities, the on-site restaurants, the appealing room decor, the comfortable beds, the balconies, and the hallways filled with historic photos of the lives of the Trapp family all combine to make this a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Don't miss this historical tour of the Trapp Family. We were thrilled to have as our guide Maria's granddaughter who did an excellent job of relating family stories and history. The movie of Maria telling her own story was wonderful and if you buy her book- as you read it you can almost hear her reading it to you.. The grounds around the hotel were beautiful and very peaceful. Definitely a highlight of our vacation in Vermont. We did not stay in the lodge but enjoyed our lunch in the restaurant and our afternoon there.

We are delighted you were able to enjoy the Trapp Family History Tour. Kirstina von Trapp Frame, Maria's granddaughter, is so pleased to know how much you enjoyed her as your guide. You captured the very essence of the "Maria" movie in that how hearing the story told in her own words gives you a true understanding of how she and the Captain met, fell in love, and with their nine children (7 from his previous marriage, two of their own children and Maria pregnant with their youngest son, Johannes), escaped the Nazi regime who had invaded Austria and eventually settled in Stowe, Vermont. Thank you for recommending us to other travelers who may or may not be staying with us. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our resort again. Rebecca

Visited over a weekend in January with my husband and four kids. We had a one bedroom, the living room had a pull out sofa which fit our three youngest, staff was kind enough to provide a cot for my oldest. Planning on returning this month, will be staying in a 2 BR for added room/comfort. Clean rooms with comfortable furnishings. Plenty to do over winter visit, including cross country skiing on numerous trails on the property (lessons, rentals provided), game room (board games, puzzles) with large fireplace, access to indoor pool, craft beer and good menu at bakery. Numerous options for breakfast at the lodge. Town of Stowe is charming, we ate at a fondue restaurant one night and the kids enjoyed the interactive eating. Beautiful views from just about anywhere.

Thank you for your comprehensive review of the suite in which you stayed last winter with your three children. I am sure this is very helpful for other travelers with children. We also appreciate the compliments of activities and that there is "plenty to do" while visiting. We now sell breakfast burritos at our DeliBakery that are very popular for an on-the-go breakfast. I am guessing you enjoyed Fondue by Heinz - it is very popular and children do enjoy this type of eating. We hope you return to visit us again. Rebecca

The grounds are incredible. The staff is impeccably gracious. We got a 300 plus dollar "standard" room but they upgraded us to a suite. Good thing, or I would be inclined to rate a star lower. If you are not a "Sound of Music" fan avoid this place. In fact, if you did not like "Sound of Music" you are likely reading this review from another planet.

Room Tip: 369 is large and has a great view. The flooring and elevator system can be either charming or con...

My husband and I stayed here years ago and returned in July with our two boys, ages 8 and 12. Like the first time, the Trapp Family Lodge did not disappoint. The grounds and view are beautiful and my kids were fascinated with the lodge, the grounds, the trails, the pool, the Austrian furnishings, etc. This is truly an "experience" hotel. After a day of hiking and exploring in the area, it was nice to return to the Lodge for swimming, walking, frog-spotting, etc. It extends the day and the fun! The food and beverage are typical hotel pricey but we couldn't resist the large patio to enjoy snacks and beers made on premises. They show kid-friendly movies every night in the theatre. The only con was our room had a "private" balcony but it was very small and overlooked the driveway near the bus boys. We were on the second floor in the front of the lodge so we were greeted every morning by delivery trucks, people checking in, etc. The second floor was great because we could avoid using the slow elevator, but I would ask for a room away from the driveway. Again, a great "experience" hotel.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms in front with private balcony may overlook busy driveway. Ask for a room away fro...

We are pleased that you returned to stay with us with your children and that we did not disappoint! How nice that your children loved exploring the hotel and property - so much for kids to enjoy - frogging being high on the list with them. Dining on our patio at the height of summer is simply paradise - it is a lovely place to see the moon-rise - a super moon this August. Please let our reservations department know that you want a room away from the front entrance of the hotel - I recommend our Premier Rooms in the Millennium Wing; some of which are connecting and in a much quieter area of the hotel. The views from this location are not as spectacular as the front-facing rooms but they do face our apple orchard on a sloping lawn that is very peaceful and a great place to sit on the patio with morning coffee and relax. We look forward to a return visit from your family. Rebecca

I had been to this property and stayed at one of the Villas. We were able to do so again, and it was excellent. We took full advantage of the pools indoor and out, the spa, and the hiking trails. We spent a lovely Sat lunch time at the new brewery eatery, having a watermelon and goat cheese salad, with a flight of taster beers from the Trapp Brewery, which was all excellent. There was live music as well. Views all over this property are the best and ever changing. On the road up to the villas as well as in a field near the brewery are resident pigs, which were new to us this time, they provide great fresh products and when we spoke to the lady feeding them she told us about the resort having resident chickens as well, which provide over 100 eggs per day. Love that they are doing this. I try each time to visit the chapel and although the forecast for Sunday was rain, I did do a 2 hour circuit of the trails before it poured and the signage with my map in hand were very helpful. I could have spent many hours doing more loops of the wooded area had the weather been more promising. I love this place and seem to breath easier while there and it restores m energy for a few weeks afterwards.

Room Tip: Check if there are any outdoor concerts in the summer at the meadow, this is an amazing place to lis...
