I was not as impressed with The Gables Inn as some others who have posted reviews here. It wasn't the worst place I've ever stayed, and the price was right, but people should know that it is not really a typical inn. Perhaps it is a better spot in the winter, but in the summer it just felt like a cheap place. The main rooms of the inn are not very welcoming. I would have never felt comfortable just sitting there to read or watch television. We had one of the rooms in the main building. The room was fine - clean, good size - but unless the air conditioning was on, it smelled very musty. Yes, they leave free (and cheap) razors out, but the towels are old and very small. The breakfasts were fine but not great and certainly far from "amazing", as some reviewers have said. It is nice to have a full restaurant menu and be able to pick what you like, but I think I would have preferred to have a better breakfast at one of the nicer inns in town. I would not stay here again.

We booked 2 nights at the Gables prior to reading reviews. It is, as the brochure states, a "classic B&B." Booking was effortless, it was easy to find, and the hosts were very personable. We stayed in one of the suites and enjoyed the Jacuzzi and the fireplace. The room and the inn are homey...... as would be expected in a 100+ year old converted farm house. We were very happy with our stay. As everyone else mentioned, the breakfast was very good. I would recommend it to my friends and I would be happy to stay there again!

This is the best value hotel I've ever stayed at in vermont! the little extras were numerous, from free razors and care packages left for us by the super-attentive innkeepers, to the the most STUPENDOUS, DELICIOUS breakfast one could possible hope for - this place more than exceeded my expectations. There were so many instances that showed care and attention to detail, my friend and I can't wait to go back.

My wife and I have been staying at the Gables Inn in Stowe VT for the past 3 years. We usually stay twice every ski season. There are several reasons we love going back there -
1) The warmth and affection of the hosts Annette and Randy. I think its really charming that two white collar professionals from Manhattan (Annette was a corporate lawyer and Randy was an IT consultant) decided to give up their careers and take over a B&B. Besides that - they are absolutely fantastic people who go to great lenghts to ensure a really comfortable stay
2) The inn has all the New England charm. The rooms are great and you have the options from renting a luxurious suite to a economical room in the main house.
3) The prices are much cheaper for the high quality -- especially compared to places such as StoweFlake and other nearby inns. This means more money to spend on the slopes and for dinners.
4) Fantasic breakfast and free. Breakfast at the Gables is well known in Stowe and several non-inn guests do show up there for Randy's varied menu and excellent cooking. Best of all it's free for guests.
5) After a hard and fun day of skiing - you can make it back to the Gables knowing that Randy has laid out some amazing coffee cake, hot cider and coffee. The fireplace is also going.
6) You can relax your aches on a secluded outdoors hot tub.
All awesome reasons to make the Gables the best place to stay when you are in Stowe.

We only stayed one night at the Gables, a pity really as it was so comfortable & friendly we wished we could have stayed longer. Even though we were there only one night we were treated like long stay guests Randy & his wife were most hospitable & accomodating, by the way the breakfasts are never to be forgotten the most freshly cooked food you could wish for. If you are looking for an evening meal try the Japanese restaurant just down the road, it is tremendous food.

After staying at The Gables on several occasions it has become a favorite of ours. Exemplifying a small unpretentious inn The Gables is a wonderful change of pace in Stowe. Randy and Annette from our first stay were extremely hospitable and quite knowledgeable and willing to share there local insight. The rooms are diverse and each unique with their own charm. The breakfast is delightful as well. And then there's the Hollandaise, which is often executed but rarely perfected and as rich and flavorful as it is The Gables. When were in Stowe we stay at The Gables!

We stayed several nights at the Gables Inn and selected it primarily for location (about 10 mins from the slopes).

The Gables Inn is a truly "homey" place. My teenage daughter says she felt like she was at Grandma's house--very comfortable and relaxed. She felt so at home she constantly left our door open! Our room included a breakfast menu that was truly outstanding! Apres ski treats, prepared by Randy, were always welcome.

We stayed in the Master Bedroom, which was very large and clean. It includes a gas fireplace and a small TV and sofa. The bed was very comfortable.

There are many restaurants nearby and dinner plans, even during the busy President's Week, were never a problem.

I would recommend the Gables to anyone looking for convenience to Mansfield, a great breakfast and a very home-like setting.
