“very run-down”
Reviewed 31 January 2013

There is a fine line between "quaint" and "run down", but the Foxfire crosses that line. My wife and I are certainly NOT expecting the height of luxury. But when we pulled into the parking lot, we thought we were in the wrong place - from the outside, the building looked like it had been abandoned for a couple years. The inside was better - perfectly clean, everything in order - but furniture, decor etc. was old without being "charming". From our room we could hear *every word* of two different conversations going on in nearby rooms, which was distracting and pretty much ruled out privacy. After dropping off our bags we went down into Stowe, and the idea of returning to the Foxfire later was actually sort of depressing. Oh, and single-ply toilet paper.

If you are a romantic who loves a friendly, charming place to stay, the Fire Fox Inn is for you. My wife and I stayed only one night. We wish we could have stayed longer. Bob, the innkeeper is a friendly man. The Inn was built in the 1800s, and is not going to have the amenities of a modern hotel. If that is what you want, try the Holiday Inn.

The resaurant is first class. Not what you would expect from a country inn. Bob seated us right in front of the fire place. On a cold, snowy night, one couldn't ask for anything better.

We can't wait to go back!

We were welcomed by Bob who ran both the restaurant and B&B. The rooms are situated above the busy restaurant which was slightly worrying as none of the rooms had locks or a safe. The room itself was spacious and comfortable although as it was an old building the floorboards were very creaky. Breakfast was excellent as were the dinners in the restaurant. It would be an improvement if Bob introduced some tea and coffee making facilities as drinks were only available with breakfast.

We stayed one night in the Inn.
It's more a restaurant then an INN. The restaurant is located in the ground floor, and on the second floor are the rooms (4 or 5).
The room we received was quit big, but we had problem sleeping because of the massive garlic smell we got from the restaurant. We open the air-condition and tried and eliminate the restaurant odor - without any success.
We will not come again - sorry !
I can say good words about the breakfast which was very good, and diner as well, as for sleeping - no thanks !

Room Tip: Only if you like to sleep with the smell of restaurants

Fortunately only a one night stay. Friendly welcome by the Inn Keeper who showed us to a small but clean room where every single piece of wallpaper was peeling off the walls. Fixtures and fittings were showing their age too. No key lock on door and no room safe. No TV but a TV in guests lounge. No coffe machine but the Inn Keeper kindly produced some for us on request. We ate downstairs in the Inn's Italian Restaurant. Both the bar and restaurant were busy. The meal was OK .

We arrived on a Sunday evening and were given the choice of one of two rooms that met our needs. We chose the larger room and it worked out great. We were the only people staying that night, so we also had the sitting room upstairs to ourselves. It was all so nice and the breakfast was huge!

Room Tip: There were rooms with private and shared baths. We chose the private bath.

We stayed two nights in July. Our first problem is that all the doors were locked. The property has both a restaurant and a B&B, and the restaurant is closed on Monday. But all the doors were locked. We had a moment of panic until one of the owners showed up, walking his dogs.

Our room, room A, is closest to the highway (VT 100), and the highway has a lot of trucks. It was quite warm in Vermont that day, and the room is on the second floor and on the west end of the building, and it was very warm in the room. There was a window unit air conditioner, but it was very loud and made for a tough night. When I shut the AC off and opened a window, we had to deal with the trucks.

The best part of this place was the breakfast. Both days, breakfast was excellent, eggs to order one day and blueberry pancakes the next.

In retrospect, we should have stayed somewhere in the Stowe resort away from the highway.
