I stayed here while riding at Stowe & Sugarbush. I was solo, but my room had two dbls and a twin sized bed, all for under $100 a night over the weekend; so for a group, this would be a steal. I stayed in one of the motel units in the back, which was nice and quiet, not that anyplace along the access road is real noisy. The room was nothing special; I'm guessing the place was built back in the 50s, judging from the fact it shared many features with the house my grandfather built. This was quaint, but also reflected 60+ years of wear and tear; not dirty, but not luxurious. It is what it is, a total steal for Stowe; I would easily stay here again, but I wouldn't try to impress a woman with it. Another perk is it's location, directly next to Piecasso which makes great food and serves some awesome local brews; try anything by Hill Farmstead or Lawsons and/or the Heady Topper. Super close to the mountain.

This is not a fancy place, but the rooms are neat, tidy, and clean. The location is great, midway between the mountain and the village with many good restaurants within walking distance. The innkeepers were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the main house, and newer motel type units behind the main house that can accommo...

My friend and I recently stayed at the Riverside Inn during our road trip around America and we both agree that this place was the best place we stayed in the whole two months. Julian and Kay are just amazing (always there to offer advice and help in any way they can) and make you feel so welcome in their lovely home. The rooms are great, location perfect and it is incredible value for money in Stowe. We really could not recommend this place enough and we cannot wait for our return trip. Julian and Kay have nailed it!

Reviews have to be relative while writing, and you always compare the thing to review amongst a lot of it's kind and quite promptly this place sits right at the top when it comes to it's "Value for it's Price" parameter.Location, service, cleanness and and the warmth of the welcoming gesture, you think of these parameters and they stand out so very much for each of those that it won't take you really much time to attribute your superlatives to them, and that too at such an outstandingly competitive price at a place where lodging gets costlier than Times Square during autumn,

My strong strong recommendations for this place.

Room Tip: You don't have to be fazed if you get the Inn's Old House's accommodation and are not g...

Initially, we were just travelling thru but, after the first night the karma of the place got to us and we stayed another three nights!

Julian & Kay couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful and contributed greatly to our enjoyment of Stowe and it's surrondings.

We were there in late September in glorious weather which, of course, helped but The Riverside Inn is a place whichcompletely trumps our "pass this way once, never return" travelling rule!

We were looking for a place to bring our dog Cheddar for a visit to the area to meet up with friends. From the first phone call I liked the place. Spoke with Julian & he set us right up. We were very later getting to the area, but we knew with unit was ours - there was a note on the door saying "Kim - This one! Sleep well, see you in the morning., Julian & Kay"
Room was very large, clean, had a microwave, cable, coffee pot, fridge & wireless"
Little did we know right outside the door was a 5-mile biking path & Julian said we could use the bikes outside the motel units. Bonus!
We will return to this little jewel in Stowe - they even have a cat inside the Inn - double bonus!

Room Tip: Unit #17 is right next to the bike path - good for people with dogs. They love dogs and it was absol...

We have stayed at the Riverside Inn now for 14 years (once in the house and 13 times in the motel units.) We must like it as we keep coming back to the great British hospitality of our hosts Kay and Julian. I have noticed that most of the reviews are great for the Riverside Inn and a few are not so great. As you can see we are on the "great" side as it is a wonderful value for the area, comfortable and old fashioned. It is near lots of great places to eat from the Blue Donkey hamburger joint to the Old English Inn and Gracie's. Depending on how long we stay each year (from 3 nights to a week) we may even run up to Shaw's like we did this year and have our own inexpensive dinners on the porch or in our room just chilling to the country atmosphere. You can't beat it.

The rooms are old fashioned quaint, with modern baths, comfortable beds and a good nights sleep. You can usually access the internet from the rooms too. Each year something seems to be updated. They were telling us that next year they may put in flat screen TV's in the rooms but hardly necessary unless one stays in the room all the time (they do have dvd and vcr's in the rooms). There is so much to see and do in the area and just relax and read a book on the porch in front of your room or socialize with the "neighbors" or the owners. We always enjoy a nice glass of wine and cheese with someone each year. In the cooler temps stroll up to the big house and have a cup of tea or coffee in the living room where there is usually a nice fire going and you can watch TV there too or visit with other guests.

Someone mentioned this is a car and motor cycle lovers place. Yes it is. We come for a car show each year and the owner has a couple of classics as well as a motorcycle. Lots of great roads to drive and antique shops to visit too. Oh and they have lots of bicycles for the guests to use at no charge. My wife used one to ride into town and do some shopping when I was working in the room.

Bugs? We have never had a problem in all of our 14 years. The Inn is located in the country along a stream (river) and woods. We may see a spider or other little bug from time to time, but nothing to fear about and usually they may be in the bath area. Heck we are in a suburb and have little critters visit us each day too.

What more can we say. We look forward to coming here each year and have booked for our 15th visit in 2013.

Room Tip: Book early is all I can say if you want a motel unit. Rooms in the house are usually more readily a...
