The price of the toll road was bad enough but then to have additional fees for each person in the car was absurdly overpriced to enjoy this beautiful, natural wonder of nature. To top it off we hoped to hike and see the sunset but the road closed at 4:30 PM, so we were forced to leave the potential views to memories of days gone by when it was reasonable, even for poor college students.

“Narrow and superb”

We loved the winding trail that takes you to several viewing areas. The complimentary audio cd describes a little about the area. Very professional. The scenery is breathtaking and there are many walking trails from the summit. Well worth the admission price.

“What a ride”

We didnt actually make the drive up this year but have done it four or five times. The views are great, sometimes scary, but always a great trip. Make sure to hike to the nose before you drive back down

“On a clear day, you could see Mt. Washington 77 miles away.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

When we got to the toll road and saw how steep it looked, we thought twice about driving up. The booth attendant said we would be fine, but that the road was dirt all the way up after that first stretch of blacktop, and got twisty and windy towards the top. We figured it would be fine and paid $31 for 3 of us to drive up at 10:30 am on Friday, 7/11/14. The air was dry and crystal clear, it was about 60 degrees and we poked our head in the limited information shack at the summit. There wasn't much of a view there and the 36 parking spaces were filling up fast. An older couple was hiking and suggested that we follow them for a 10 minute trail hike to get a panoramic view. The terrain was rough, actually on the Long Trail, and the view was great. There were kids having a blast and older folks who had more guts that I may have at their age. The lower lot held another dozen cars and let you be at the top of the chairlift that was running ($25 round trip), and the lodge that was serving food, and their lodge's deck had a great view. Two park rangers, Forrest and Ed, were friendly and conversationalists, proceeded to tell us about the future zipline and the weekend's hot air balloon festival in Stowe. The few cars we encountered driving up or down were great at sharing the limited roadway space, and we even heard one hiker stop and warn another about a bear he had just seen.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

We just got back from our second summer trip to Stowe. I agree with others that the road was bumpy and the views were amazing. We went to lot A and took the short hike. It was a beautiful day and very windy. We went back down to lot C to take some additional pics. There were some trails that were definitely worth investigating if we had more time. An alternative to this drive was the quad lift up, across from SML, and short hike to the summit.
