We got to stowe at least once a year for a long weekend, and eat at this restaurant at least once. Over the years, the quality has just gone downhill. Ten years ago, this place was great. But it has steadily gone downhill. We ate here twice a couple of months ago over a weekend, the first night was acceptable but the second night really mediocre. Also, not sure why more and more restaurants can't greet you nicely anymore when you walk in. We walked in on a sunday night, and yes it was not busy and maybe the staff didn't feel like serving anyone that night - but come on, don't make us feel like we should go away when we walk in the door! I suppose if you REALLY have to have mexican restaurant in Stowe, then go ahead. As for us, after 10+ years of being a customer, we are moving on. Is the place overpriced? Yes, it's pricey, but this is Stowe and nothing is cheap around this town.

This place used to be good. I just went again, and had a wretchedly mediocre meal, which was overpriced to boot.

Not recommended

We were recommended the Cactus Cafe by a staffer at our hotel in Stowe. According to the staffer all of the food at the cafe is "homemade".

Based on this advise we decided to give it a try.

I should have known I was in over my head when the menu listed a regular chicken burrito for $16.95

In addition, they only give you one basket of chips and salsa and you have to purchase any additional ones.

Margaritas are average at best and are served in a regular glass, not a margarita glass. For $7.25 (the cheapest margarita), I would expect a nice margarita glass with a good tasting margarita.

Two people with 3 margaritas was $65 plus tip. All in all, we felt we overpaid for our meal. The food was the same food you'd get in a mexican restaurant that you order by "the number" and pay $7 for.

I would avoid this restaurant.
