Stayed with several colleagues and received great service, a breakfast that eliminated the necessity to play predator in the neighborhood and beautiful scenery. The Kerivans are a joy to be around as well with Mr. Kerivan (Shawn) being a resident author and Chantal a delightful conversationalist. Would stay again...definitely ;c)

This B and B was fantastic. Our room was very quiet and clean. Our room was #6 at the top of the stairs. The inn reminds me of many wonderful family hostels/inns that I have stayed at across Europe. Our room did not have a TV which was fine with us but there is a nice TV downstairs in the family room.In the family room they have board games, books and DVD's to watch. We spent each night hanging out chatting with Chantal and Shawn and with other guests at the inn and having a relaxing glass of wine with some dessert we bought. They also have a warm gas fireplace in the family room. There is a hot tub but we did not use it as it was to cold outside for us.We are from FL. The breakfast was great. Chantal was a good cook. The breakfast room has a nice view overlooking a stream. Also the inn comes with a great dog named Max who likes to have his ears and butt scatched. Also they have a pool but when we were there it was under 8 feet of snow so we only saw the very top of it. Chantal and Shawn are also knowledgable about local attractions, places to go and various happenings around town. Thank you Chantal and Shawn so much for a wonderful stay. Ken and Sandy

Situated in the lower part of Stowe it is only 10 min or so drive from the mountain base and less than that for all the restaurants. (A great pizza take away opposite).
The main attraction of this place is the way the owners( not employed staff) treat you as part of their family. They catered for my wifes dietry requirements at breakfast with no problems what so ever. A refreshing change in th USA! If you want five star luxury then go and pay 5 star prices. This is a cost effective yet clean and well appointed for the money establishment. We had ensuite facilities and never had a problem getting in to the outdoor hot tub. We would stay there again.

Great B&B experience. Nice hosts, very outgoing and friendly. Older home, very clean, close to downtown activities (walking distance). They have a nice dog, which is great if you're a dog person. Would stay again.

The only thing nice about this place was the sign outside! Very shabby outside, needs nails, hammers and a lot of paint! It even has a ravine right behind it! It scared the heck out of me. I'm so happy there was something much better down the road. A lot more money but definitely not musty, dusty or chinzy on the breakfast! Trip Adviser and Hotels.com should really check out what they are offering in person.

Stowebergiste, Owner at Auberge de Stowe, responded to this reviewResponded 18 November 2008

As the owners of the Auberge de Stowe, we'd like to respond to the review "Bates Motel." We object to the inaccurate characterization of our B&B in such a disturbing fashion. A few facts for potential visitors: 1. We are not a motel; we are a roadside B&B, part of a property that was built in 1835, which may have contributed to the reviewer's low opinion of our exterior paint (the building is constantly in some phase of repainting, and we don't always catch up--forgive us!); 2. We are visited regularly by AAA, which lists us in their travel guides; 3. We are visited regularly by the state health inspector, who gave us a 98/100 last month (11/08). Furthermore, the reviewer states that our breakfasts are chintzy, and that the inn is dusty and musty, but the reviewer could not know these things because she did not stay with us. She never set foot inside our inn. At the time of check-in, her husband called us to try and cancel their reservation. We were told by the husband that his wife was ill, and they were returning home. But this is not true, because the reviewer states that they found something nicer down the road. Thanks for the chance to set the record straight.

We stayed at the Auberge this past winter. With one child in college and another headed there shortly, we looked for a place near Stowe that could accomodate the 4 of us, but wouldn't cost a fortune. Auberge provided that. The rooms were very basic and could really use updating, but the owners were friendly and helpful. Breakfast wasn't fancy, but tasty and provided plenty of fuel for a day of skiing. One suggestion to the owners, some nice fluffy towels would be very much appreciated.

In a town where $20 restaurant entrees are the norm, Auberge de Stowe is one incredible value. And a super friendly one, at that. We cannot say enough good things about Shawn & Chantal. Their B&B is perfect for a rustic Vermont experience. You feel like an exchange student staying in a family house. They are so warm and helping. Trust me, you will not get that out of an uber-challet/resort/hotel.
Homemade scones, jams, quiche w/fiddle ferns...and as much good conversation as you want. Can't wait to stay there in ski season. Forget what "Falls Short" wrote - this place is real.
