“Clean, Comfortable and QUIET.”
Reviewed 28 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We stayed at this wonderful property for a week. It was a few minutes from the Town of Stowe. The house itself is amazing. Great layout. The kitchen has all that you may need to cook a meal. The Master bedroom was wonderful. The bed was really comfortable. I can go on and on about this home. And i mean "home" away from home. I believe that the title of this review fully explains our "vacation". I highly recommend this home for a family. We have three Border Collies and they too were so content at his home. If you're looking for a PEACEFUL vacation, you can't go wrong staying here. Thank you Lynn for sharing your your home with us. Barbara, thank you for being there for us.

“Charming and cozy cottage in the woods.”
Reviewed 28 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

Wonderful, cozy and inviting cottage in the woods - just right for our family of four with two dogs. The kitchen was very well stocked, modern, clean and worked very well. The beds and linens were lovely and the wood burning stove kept us warm and cozy! Maps and information made it easy to access the nearby trails - Wonderful Trip!
Thank you!

“I love this place”
Reviewed 25 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

My husband and I stayed at the Stone Cottage for two weeks late September to mid-October. We researched accommodations for six months prior to booking this location and we are very happy with our decision. The homeowners knew that we were coming to see the fall foliage and celebrate our wedding anniversary and when we arrived late at night we were greeted with pumpkins at the head of the driveway, mums along the sidewalk and the lights were on waiting for us. Inside we found fresh cut flowers arranged nicely in a vase alongside some Vermont specialty products along with a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. The fireplace was prepared so that all we had to do was strike a match then sit back, relax and enjoy. The devil is in the details and the first impressions were absolutely wonderful.

We found the house to be warm and inviting and spotless clean. There are two separate living areas and the master bedroom is located in a different part of the house away from the other two bedrooms which would make this place perfect for a family for kids, friends, or two couples to share as there is enough space to everyone to not bump into each other and have room to themselves.

The living area was comfortable and cozy and there was Wi-Fi available in the house. The kitchen was well equipped and the appliances were in good working condition. My husband particularly enjoyed the gas stove top as we have an electric range at home. The bathroom was large and the shower was spacious. The shower head was wonderful and had great water pressure but the bath towels were incredible. They were the softest, largest, whitest bath towels that I have ever seen. I seriously wanted to take them home with me! The bedding was clean and the mattress and pillows were comfy. But my favorite part has to be the bedroom fireplace. It felt so glamorous and indulgent to have a fire in the bedroom at night when the air was cool and crisp outside. I loved seeing the light from the flicker of the flames dance across the ceiling and walls as I drifted off the sleep. It doesn't get any better than that.

Outside there is a trail from the property that takes you through the woods to a beautiful little river and within walking distance from the cottage you can find several hiking trails and waterfalls in the Sterling Forest. We particularly liked the fact that there are old homesteads in the forest with interpretive signs that talk about the people who lived there back in the day.

We were fortunate enough to see various wildlife during our stay. Several deer in the pasture next to the property on a frequent basis, a red fox, a skunk (careful not to get too close), several squirrels and two friendly neighbor dogs would come to say hello.

The cottage is located about 10 minutes outside of the town of Stowe. Close enough to run into town for groceries and far enough way to feel like you have enough privacy. There is a covered bridge along the route to and from town that I really loved seeing every day. We don't have those back at home.

The town of Stowe and the surrounding area have a lot to offer. You can take the Stowe recreating trail on foot or rent a bicycle. Go into town for some shopping, don't miss the General Store or the Stowe Mercantile. There are several restaurants you can eat at or take in a game at the local sports bar. We particularly liked the Sunset Grill for Sunday football games and Doc Ponds for a bite to eat. The historic Green Mountain Inn put on a great Sunday morning brunch that alone was worth a trip into town. We also enjoyed the local corn maze and pumpkin patch and the factory tour and ice cream at Ben and Jerrys, Apple cider and fresh, hot apple cider donuts at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. The scenic drive through Smuggler's Notch was breathtaking as was the gondola ride at Mt. Mansfield. The historic town of Waterbury is close by and has a lot to offer as well. Do not miss the Haunted Stowe at night tour to learn about the history of the town and local legends while strolling the streets holding candle lit lanterns.

The home owners called a time or two to check in with us to see how we were doing and if there was anything that we needed which I felt was a very kind and thoughtful thing for them to do.

I fell in love with the Stone Cottage, the town of Stowe, the landscape and scenery and with Vermont. I would highly recommend the Stone Cottage if you are looking for a place to stay in this area. I hope you will fall in love with it too.

“Lovely house - great for a family visit”
Reviewed 19 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed at Stone Cottage for 3 nights in July. Our experience was excellent from start to finish. The owner responded quickly to our inquiry and was such a pleasure to deal with. The caretaker was responsive, helpful and very sweet. The house itself is in a gorgeous spot, very serene and beautiful, with a flower filled yard and a well cut path down to the river. The house was clean and well supplied with an excellent kitchen and washer and dryer. The bedroom layout was perfect for our family of 4. There is a beautiful sunny room at the back of the house that was a favorite for my kids...they spent hours stretched out in the sunny window seat. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

“Everything I'm looking for”
Reviewed 18 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The title sums it up. Stone Cottage is private but not isolated. There are houses in the area but we never see the neighbors. On the other hand we saw a moose as it munched its way though the trees. And I have to mention the new trail to Sterling Brook. Hardy and his crew built a trail down to the brook giving really easy access. To the deer as well apparently, since we saw lots of deer tracks on the trail. At Stone Cottage you're definitely in the woods - like camping only at a house with some fine appointments and appliances. The Brook trout are still in the creek, use a dry fly.

We spent 3 weeks at Stone Cottage with our 3 dogs. It was the perfect location for hiking and swimming in Sterling forest, pond and gorge. Tom enjoyed fly fishing in the stream that is on Stone Cottage property. The cottage is perfectly equipped for cooking anything you might want. We even hosted a party for our VT friends just to show them the wonderful setting.

The cottage has several TVs with Direct TV as well as Apple TV. Our phone service was adequate as well as wireless internet.

During our three weeks we experienced a moose sighting as well as the barred owls that seem to live close by and a brief glimpse of a fisher cat.

The property manager Barb was readily available with any questions we might have had.

This place is one of a kind! We will be returning in just a few months for another go!

“Wonderful place to enjoy skiing and winter in Vermont”
Reviewed 21 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We rented Stone Cottage during February vacation week 2015. There were record breaking low temperatures that week but we were so cozy in the cottage with the wood burning stove. Most afternoons warmed up enough for skiing at Mt Mansfield or Trapp Family Lodge for cross country which were both within about twenty minutes from the cottage. Pinnacle Ski and Sports did a great job with our rentals.

One of my favorite places near the cottage was the Sterling Forest. It's a short drive down the road (less than five minutes) and was a great place to snow shoe or cross country ski.

The cottage was immaculate, with lots of plush towels and nice bed linens. The caretaker checked in with us during our stay to make sure everything was OK. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean and modern. The owner was very pleasant and easy to work with.

My only caution would be that it may not be best suited for families with small children only because the master bedroom is up one staircase and the other two bedrooms are up another staircase and they don't connect upstairs. For us it was fine as our three children are teens.
