“Absolutely Wonderful”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

This Off-the-Beaten-Path restaurant doesn't even have a sign on it. But once you find it (not that hard) the two owners, William & Gil, offer you exceptional hospitality and wonderful food.

The restaurant is an old Inn. You walk in the front door and you're greeting by a large, two-sided fireplace. Stone Soup is furnished with antiques and is VERY comfortable. My wife and I go there every chance we get. After a long work week, it is the most relaxing evening we can think of.

There about about 10 items on the menu with enough variety to please any taste.

We've taken many, many friends to the Stone Soup and they've ALL gone back.

“Intimate dining”
Reviewed 21 March 2012

Stone Soup offers Inn style dining without being a B&B. Located in a charming old house in a wonderful village. The quality of the locally grown food is very good but the spices sometimes obscure the quality of the ingredients.

“Always reliable---one of the best restaurants in the Upper Valley area”
Reviewed 11 August 2011

We have been dining at Stone Soup for many years---one of our favorite places. Excellent food with great sauces, charming atmosphere and surroundings (don't miss the garden in back), gracious staff---AND in the quintessential Vermont village of Stafford, Vermont, only 20 minutes from Hanover, NH. Open evenings, Thursday-Sunday only.

“Fantastic Vermont dining Near Hanover New Hampshire”
Reviewed 30 November 2009

Stone Soup is a complete gem about 30 minutes or so from Hanover, NH. The location is a Vermont post card for it is right on a picturesque town green boasting two white clapboard churches and wonderful Federal buildings. The restaurant is in a converted house and the garden in the back is both picturesque and the source of many ingredients. The always have a solid assortment of seven or so daily choices; fowl, fins and beef as well as a vegetarian selection and the flavours are always reflective of the time of year. My family makes the trip every so often in the summer and each year after Thanksgiving. As usual, this year we were not disappointed. Most of the group ordered lamb and there was one duck and a scallop entry and we decided no one had outordered anyone else as tastes made the rounds. The vegetables are delicious too and portions are not small, neither are they so big it is a turn-off - it is just right for some and the dog benefits from any leftovers. Desserts also provide a range choices for a range of tastes, if you dare.

The place is sort of business casual and the staff are relaxed, agreeable and kind. There is a great bar by the door and a roaring fire in winter where one can sit before heading to the table. In mild weather it is lovely to stroll the grounds.

We bring our children (who love and look forward to the incredilbe food) but they eat out often and we like things more on the formal side. The boys like to order things such as oysters and game so it is perfect for them but a picky eater would need the chef to prepare a little pasta or small steak, which they would probably do. I think it is best for children who are comfortable sitting with the adults though in summer restless ones could play in the garden.
