Owner description: Popular Vermont ski area and New England's best ski buy.

A single chair lift, most runs are not groomed, no snowboarders allowed, only one restaurant and bar, casually attired skiers (male skiers with large beards found here), and mostly black runs with lots of moguls makes this place feel like "pioneer" skiing! So if you are looking for a great ski challenge and want to experience something totally different from what most ski resorts offer, this is the place for you. Although it is true when they say "ski it if you can", our daughter does not enjoy moguls or steep runs and she still found trails to keep her satisfied all week long. You really feel like you are going back to the days when you would ski at a resort and by the end of the day you start to know and recognize people. You can't get lost here and everyone is super friendly. The prices are also very reasonable. Our family has skied the rockies and the Alps but this time we wanted to get to our destination by car so we chose to go to Vermont at MRG. We have no regrets. Our daughter even said it was one of her best ski vacations ever!

I have to come here since its one of the few places left that bans snowboarders. I snowboard as well so I don't favor one sport over another.

It is also one of few places with a one-chair lift. I thought I try it before they take it down eventually.

This resort has an old feel to it and really quiet in the weekdays but make no mistake the terrain can be challenging with lots of bumps and ungroomed trails.

Skied Mad River Glen in mid-December after what to go for years.
OK, I was lucky with the weather - masses of snow.

Atmosphere at resort was so laid-back and friendly.
The trails are amazing.
Despite its reputation for being an advanced and experts heaven, it has great green trails curving around from the Sunnyside Chair, and they are stil authentic Vermont, tightly tree-lined trails.

From the single chair, they have the harder runs - a couple are strong intermediate, the rest advanced and expert.

Quite possibly the best and most beautiful trails you will find anywhere if it has snowed.

Even the blue run is amazing.
Narrow, with snow that varies from fresh powder to New England icey down the same trail - wonderful.

Had a great lesson with Heidi.

My first time skiing here was 3/16/14 after a great dump of snow, I'm hooked.. The vibe is so cool the trails are great, love the single chair.. You really have to ski here on a great powder day , and you'll be hooked as well...

A few weeks ago we made our annual pilgrimage to "The Valley" for a weekend of skiing. Mad River Glen is like no other ski "resort." We watched the "Unconventional Terrain Competition" as we rode the Single Chair Lift which first opened in 1948! MRG is the only cooperatively-owned ski area in America and has a unique, laid-back vibe. After skiing, you must go to the General Stark pub afterwards for a heaping plate of nachos.
