This is the place to visit to enjoy the Vermont scenery along route 100. Enjoy a view of the cornfield rather than a parking lot view elsewhere. Tasty breakfasts can be enjoyed out on the back porch. Listen to the birds sing & catch a glimpse of a hummingbird. Cookies & tea in the afternoon. Bathroom small as you would expect. Bed comfy, but the air conditioner is a bit loud. No locks, but it didn't bother us.

The Mad River Inn is just outside Waitsfield in a beatiful old Victorian house with great views of growing crops and the Green Mountains. It has a roomy enclosed front porch, a large living room and dining room plus a back porch with a wonderful view where breakfast is served, weather permitting. There is a large lawn with a gazebo in the center and a pair of rocking chairs in the gazebo. We sat and rocked in the evening as we took in the fresh air and the lovely scenery. Breakfast one morning started with a lovely blueberry/lemon muffin and the main dish was a crepe with cream cheese filling and covered with fresh fruit. It was absolutely delicious. The next morning breakfast was a delicious half pear followed by a kind of Spanish quiche that was also very good. The Inn is owned by the same family that provides for horseback rides on Icelandic horses at a farm a few miles away. It is also convenient to some really nice hikes. Waitsfield has some nice restaurants and it is just a short drive away. Our room was on the first floor on the west side. I highly recommend it because it has a large window with a wonderful view. The bedroom furniture is antique and comfortable. There is a small tv in this room and I don't think all the rooms have tv. The bathroom is nextdoor and was exclusively for our room but you do have to step briefly into the commons are to go into the bathroom. it was large with a nice shower/tub but lacked shelf space. We were not given a key and nothing was locked up. How refreshing to be at a place where that can still be the norm.

Room Tip: Get the room on the first floor on the west end. It has a great view and a small tv.

We had a great getaway vacation and picked this B&B out among others not having ever been to the area. The location is great, there is much to see and do in all directions. The only thing that was difficult was the "open atmosphere of trust." We're used to locking our room and were told that generally folks just leave them open. Would recommend this B&B to our friends and family.

My husband Mark planned this vacation. He couldn't have picked a better place! Our bed was so comfortable, we slept soundly every night! The food was delicious. I would just suggest more protein. If you love crepes.....get ready because I have never eaten anything as incredible as Luke's crepes! And the surroundings are so blessedly peaceful and gorgeous with mountains on three sides. It is a good location. Close enough if you want to travel to Canada for the day. Climb Camel back mountain. Bromley fun center is only a few hours away for the kids. I would love to go again but unfortunately for us it is an 8 hr drive. But for a once in a life time adventure it was soooo worth it! And Luke is full of knowledge about the surrounding area. He is such a great guy! So much better than any hotel - hands down!

Room Tip: Not all rooms have air conditioning. You will need to ask for that if you need it. If you want quiet...

I had a wonderful stay at the scenic Mad River Inn. The inn is old and charming with spacious rooms furnished with antiques and landscaped gardens. The rooms were clean and well appointed. I am happy to note that the Inn provides FREE WiFi while many large chain hotels do not. The innkeepers, Luke and Karen were very hospitable as were their lovely daughters. They served one of the best breakfasts I've had in a very long time; fresh from the oven blueberry muffins, warm poached pear garnished with whipped cream and berries, a delicious cheesy egg strata, fresh juice and lots of hot coffee. During breakfast we enjoyed conversations with fellow guests; some were international travelers. We also had the opportunity to visit the riding stables and admire the unique Icelandic horses. It's a beautiful area to travel and enjoy the natural scenery and fresh mountain air.

I have been coming back to this wonderful Inn every July for the past 15 years, and have never been disappointed! Inn Keepers Luc and Karen are are welcoming and truly make me feel like family. The food is outstanding and beautifully presented on the lovely back porch with an awesome view of the Mountains. Over the years I have stayed in almost every room and each one has its own personality (and name) and is indulgently comfortable and immaculately clean. The Icelandic horses are truly magical and Tolting through the quintissential Vermont trails is an experience not to be missed. Whoever said "you can't go home again," never stayed at this jewel of an Inn.

Very comfortable Bed and Breakfast and it felt like home. Luke & Karen were excellent hosts and the food was amazing. The experience of trail riding the Icelandic horses was great. I would love to go again.
