We arrived to Hen of The Wood at around 7:45pm on a Tuesday. After being told our wait would be about 45 minutes, because we didn't have a reservation, I began to have my own reservations about trying Hen of the Wood. Especially, since they were holding 6 empty tables inside the restaurant for people with expected reservations and for the people eating on the deck in case it began to rain and they had to be moved inside...
But, after leaving to check out other spots in Waterbury Center, we called just fifteen minutes later to see if there were a possibility of being seated. Good thing we called, the hostess took a chance on us and got us a table right away.
The service was excellent, the staff were attentive but not pushy at all, a very welcoming group. And, the food... The food was everything someone who eats should experience at some point in their life. I mean, the design of the flavors and textures were excellent. Portions were small - in comparison to someone who expects to eat the rear-end off a cow for dinner - but, delicious and left me satisfied. As a vegetarian, I found the selection of food to be seasonal and fresh and everything Hen of the Wood is known for.
Remember: Call ahead. It's worth it.
