I made our reservation here after reading some of the reviews, but I guess the past couple of years have made serious changes at the inn! As soon as we walked through the door we wanted to leave. The common room was bleak and dreary. When we got to the stairway for our room it was very steep and the stairs were barely two feet wide, they also had a sharp turn in them - the innkeeper even advised us to take our bags in through an alternate stairway near another room!
The furnishings in our room were very worn, not antique worn - just worn. One of the drawers on the dresser was broken, the linens were tattered and mismatched, and in the bathroom the rug and towels were almost threadbare and had threads hanging. The only heat was in the bathroom, and it did not spread to the rest of the room. There was no other source of heat or air in the room. The bathroom was right by the stairs and if you were not careful...down you go! We could hear the innkeepers phone conversations through the closed door in our room so we never felt that we had any privacy. The breakfast consisted of a packaged crossant, warmed up canned pears, and soggy scrambled eggs.
We were charged the built in tip ("service fee") with tax and overcharged for the room rate. I did inquire about this and was told that the rate on the web site was wrong and that is was "subject to change"
We travel very often and have stayed in a variety of accommodations, and this was one of the worst. We were very uncomfortable and left as soon as we could. I would never stay here again.
