We stayed at the Mountaineer for 5 days with a ski group. We actually took over the entire inn. If you want a Vermont country inn experience, this is the place to go. If you like upscale hotels with a lot of amenities, this is not for you. The rooms are very small and there is no TV, hairdryer, or alarm clock. However, since we were skiing we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. Internet service was very unpredictable. On the plus side, the Inn provided a hearty breakfast and dinner. We were given choices at both meals, and each day a vegetarian dish was an option. The common areas were very nice with two fireplaces, two pianos, a pool table, hot tub, sauna and large screen TV. The innkeepers, Ned and Royal were very friendly and accommodating. The staff was also very courteous. I think the fact that we were with a group made this a very enjoyable experience.

Well, besides the mice in the common area of the Inn(where the TV is), the paper-thin walls(everyone can hear everyone else), and the fact our room never got cleaned from Friday to Sunday, I guess it was okay. The breakfasts were very good and both staff members we had contact with were very polite and friendly. Great location for those who went to the Oktoberfest at the base of Mount Snow and I'd imagine for skiers in the Winter, but we wouldn't stay here again. The room was spartan with NO amenities whatsoever except a bed and lights. If room security is a concern for you, don't stay here as the room locks are very flimsy.

Think this will be our one and only trip to Vermont.

Overall, we had a great time here. Upon arrival our kids were a little put off by the agedness of the room and its lack of a TV, but that was all the more reason to love it! In the end, our kids ages 9-13 loved it here. They met new friends playing pool and watching the community TV. We moms loved it for its 14 person outdoor hot tub, delicious hot breakfasts, candlelit dinners, fireplaces and the Moover bus to the mountain. Very convenient, friendly, quiet and enjoyable. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and find a place of their own to enjoy a book, a game or some TV.

We planned a weekend of skiing at Mt Snow and on the suggestion of a ski instructor who has stayed here before booked our reservation.

Upon arriving the individual running the front desk seemed a bit out of sorts but I overlooked it. We got our key and went to our room. We knew for the money it wouldn't be that great but were still surprised.

-very old blankets/comforters and sheets (tattered ends and pilled)
-bathroom floor was dirty
-showercurtain had mold on it and was stuck to itself and the wall
-shower tiles themselves had mold on them and hadn't been cleaned properly in years
-bathroom overall had a light cleaning last time it was cleaned
-issues obtaining password to get internet connection - they didn't want to give us the password at the front desk for some reason even they advertise having wifi

-inexpensive for being next to the mountain
-big breakfast and generally pretty good
fantastic location next to the mountain - we did drive but it was a very short drive

The ski instructor that gave us the suggestion was quite suprised by our description of the room. (She goes up there for PSIA meetings annually and stays somewhere locally.) Our room was on the 2nd floor, if you take a right at the front desk and go up the steps it was the first room on your right after the stairs. Coincidently she never stayed on the 2nd floor...we aren't sure why it was the way it was.

My husband and I met at this lodge on a college trip. 13 years later we are returning with our 3 1/2 year old and son and are very excited. It is a quaint lodge with great access to the mountain and good food. It also encourages fellowship with other guests due to the lack of TVs in the guest rooms. Great place for couples or families. The rooms are simple but clean and there is plenty of room to meander around. Thumbs up!

We stayed here in July and practically had the place to ourselves, which was good. They served breakfast in the dining room which is only used for dinner in the winter. Rooms were a little tight, especially with 2 beds in them. They have 2 rooms with a piano in them which my grandson enjoyed playing since he plays music. Also a pool, pool table, tv and movies to loan.
