Returned or our 2nd year ski weekend with 4 young children. Not disappointed with the personal service and patience with our family. Basic, clean rooms, no frills with couple large lounging rooms that we all enjoyed. Perfect for a family weekend,

Amenities are non-guaranteed. Falsely advertised hot tub - as it was not functional for our stay. It really ruined the experience as I booked this lodge specifically for the comfort of lounging by the hot tub after a long day of boarding. When brought to the owners attention, no courtesy or care was shown in the slightest. Disappointing to say the least.

Room Tip: Call ahead.

This is our 4th year at Big Bears Lodge and we absolutely love it! Caroline and Steve are the most charming hosts and make you feel like you are "home". We go with a group and therefore the meals are included and the food is wonderful - large cooked-to-order breakfasts and the dinners are exceptional. The rooms are very cozy with hair-dryers, new large screen TV's and chairs on the front porch. Our friends always absolutely love staying there largely due to the fact that Caroline and Steve make everyone feel so welcome. Needless to say, we look forward to returning!

We booked in for a Murder Mystery week-end and had a very nice time. It is misleading that this is called a lodge - a motel with a couple of sitting rooms, one with a nice looking fireplace doesn't made a true lodge. For a motel? Not too bad. Relatively clean, large end unit on the top floor with additional entrance nearby. TV worked, so did WiFi and even though the shower was sketchy, it was adequate. Dining room large enough to accommodate the 25+ people at the week-end and limited breakfast was made to order and not bad at all. Not sure about the pool out back - cover was over it and it looked as if it was closed up for the year. The owners/managers were nice enough as well. Location was directly across the street from Mt. Snow. The roads leading north to the Lodge were windy and dotted with quaint villages but not to be driven in a snowstorm by the faint of heart (like me! lol). Gourmet food down the road. All in all, we would recommend it for either the leaf peeping season or for skiing in winter. Or just a nice week-end away for a break (although there's not that much in the area to do).

Room Tip: Better probably to get a 2nd floor room.

We stayed at this lodge recently. It actually is not a lodge as you would think, it is more like a Motel 8 with the stark rooms, outdated interior, at best warm shower water, and 1950's are calling -they want their bedspreads back-type of place (and the gold blanket that you know has not been washed in YEARS-eww). Others have written it is by the ski resort-absolutely and if location is everything (and you are way to cheap to do ski-in-ski-out lodging on the mountain) then this is the place to be at. The rooms are extremely outdated, with scratchy sheets and uncomfortable beds. The carpet was so dirty I kept my socks on and they were BLACK on the bottom after the stay (I will so never wear white socks in a hotel again...still trying to get over that visual). The most distressing aspect was the smell-it was a musty smell that must have been from the laundry detergent because when I got home and unpacked only my PJs still had the stench on them-none of my other clothes retained the 'eau de' next time don't be so cheap' stench (they are currently on the 3rd wash to try and get it out so I can't tell you their outcome-likely as rags at this point). I am not sure how the pricing of this place stacks up to others-but if you want that cute small town in the mountains of Vermont experience-ya, not so much...as they say.
One point-some less than nice things were written about the inn keeper. She was kind while we were there-remember this is not an INN per se where they (inn keepers) are opening up their home. It is a motel 8-type place-so just set expectations. For what it is worth, she is obviously British from the wall of Queen Elizabeth photos in the dining room (I almost picked up a Madonna like accent)-so cut her some slack-maybe it is a culture thing.

I won't stay here again-largely because I am still mourning the death of my flannel pig PJs...that smell is just not coming out....RIP Piggy J's!
