“Peaceful Interlude”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013

I echo so many comments made by other reviewers. Katja is a delightful host. Within a short time of registering the entire staff knew us and would address us by name. I have never tasted the equal of the breakfast menu's pancakes. The gardens are beautiful. Guests were hiking, bicycling, swimming or just reading and relaxing. Although the Inn was full the peace and quiet of the setting reigned. We intend to return for a longer stay come the spring.

The Windham Hill Inn offers a level of personal service and individual attention that is rarely found. Katja Matthews, the General Manager, and her team ensure that guests are warmly welcomed and enjoy their stay.

Each day begins with a full breakfast in the dining room, which looks out out on the trees and foliage of Vermont's Green Mountains. Following breakfast, one can relax in a sitting room and read the morning papers or take one of several walks on the property.

Excursions are plentiful. A State Park is a few minutes drive away with walking trails alongside rivers and waterfalls. Those who prefer driving will find a myriad of routes taking in some of the prettiest towns in Vermont with forests and farms in between. Craft fairs and local shops provide high quality products and antiques that cannot be found elsewhere. More major shopping can be found in Manchester, a pleasant 45 minute drive through the mountains to a wide range of outlet shops.

At the end of the day, an excellent dinner service is offered at the Inn with both a tasting menu or individual a la carte selection. Dan knows his cellar well and can recommend wines to complement any meal or a pairing with the tasting menu.

The Windham Hill Inn offers that rare combination of top notch accommodation, excellent dining and outstanding service. We plan to return and would highly recommend this property to others.

This is a nicely refurbished home and barn situated on 160 acres of woods and fields. The immediate area is nicely landscaped and includes a vegetable garden, much of which shows up on the dinner menu. There are hiking trails plus a pool and tennis court for the athletic. In the winter there are cross country ski trails. Dinner was quite good and the wine list was extensive, including mamny older wines. Service was great. We had a delightful stay.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view across the valley to the far peaks.

This is the best Relais we have stay in. The service is efficient and down to earth, not snooty. Meals are very good, but some variety on the menu would help. They do have one special appetiser and entree per night, which we generally tried because the basic menu is the same day after day. They have an excellent wine list!
For some reason a number of the meals were salty, not sure why.
The rooms are clean, light, and nicely appointed.
A great place for a wedding as long as you limit it to about 50 people, as you have to contract for the entire facility and there are a limited number of rooms. However, there are so many beautiful garden nooks, and larger areas for handling drinks for groups, and pleasant walks, that this is a place to seriously consider.
For those who like golf, there are two courses within 15 and 30 minutes (Tater Hill and Stratton, respectively). Stratton is ranked about 11th in the state with 27 holes and heavily trafficked. Tater is a more wide-open course with 18 holes.
The deep tissue massages are EXCELLENT. James and his wife do them, can't recommend them any higher! Worth the experience.

We stayed here for just one night in the Barn and had a delightful time. The room was very comfortable and pretty. The food was delicious- local, fresh and refined. Excellent warm service. Beautiful hiking trails, lovely pool and incredible gardens and views. Well off of the beaten path, great for a quick weekend getaway. It appears that some of the rooms are slightly dated in their decor, but it does not detract from their charm.

Room Tip: Barn rooms are great. Seperate building with high ceilings and lots of privacy.

My first visit to this lovely establishment. Rooms are well appointed & very comfortable. Had our own private outdoor deck. The Restuarant was fabulous with a wonderful menu. Breakfast included and very good. The staff was very cordial & could not do enough for there guests. If you are looking for a quiet getaway this is the place.

The Windham hill Inn is our go to spot for relaxation and literally "heaven on earth"! From the impeccable rooms, to the five star restaurant, there is so much to savor when visiting this Inn. The grounds are extraordinary, there are several trails for running/walking. There is also a vegetable and herb garden from which the chef uses veggies for all of the entrees, talk about farm to table! When you stay there, eat there. Chef David is very talented and each menu item is delicatable! The Innkeeper Katja is kind, attentive and very detail oriented. She makes you feel like a part of the family with each visit. We highly recommend this Inn if staying in the southern VT area. A bit pricey, but WELL WORTH IT!

Room Tip: Stay in "THE BARN" for luxury suites!
