“New perspective on chipmunks”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

Quite excellent place to stay, beautiful location and Katja the innkeeper in fantastic. For the first time in my life, I encountered chipmunks that were not scared of humans, quite nearer the inn. There are excellent trails for hiking on the ground, but be forewarned that there are steep hills. By the end of each hike, I was sweating like Patrick Ewing in the fourth quarter!

We LOVE this little inn: such a beautiful spot and terrific pampering by the staff! Katja, the innkeeper, is sweet and lovely; very eager-to-please and provides guests with a memorable stay. There is not much to do, except hikes, rest and relaxation. There is a tennis court (back-yard and rustic, not in top condition) and swimming pool for some exercise and lounging. The stars at night and evening fireflies provide memorable sights. The meals at the inn could not be nicer or more romantic.

Room Tip: We have stayed in the Barn twice, and both rooms were lovely. "Meadowlook" is perfect - gr...

Our group of ten (eight adults and two children over age 8) recently stayed at the Windham Inn to celebrate a family occasion. The natural beauty, service and food were beyond compare. In particular, the Innkeeper Katja delivers a level of service and attention to detail that we haven't experienced in years. As the owner she obviously cares immensely about every aspect of her guests' experience, and helps each guest feel truly cared for. We have stayed in more expensive inns in New England, but none have come close to the service that Katja delivers and expects from the rest of her staff. Every request/question/comment was attended to within literally seconds.

Activities abound, with easy access to multiple state parks, as well as six miles of well-marked hiking trails on the property. The trails are continually being improved and expanded. Not only does the inn provide several mountain bikes for use locally, but has an easily-installed bike rack to allow you to take their bikes to excellent local trails.

Food at the restaurant is outstanding. Make sure you enjoy one of the extremely-well prepared cocktails and appreciate the view before heading into the dining room.

Highly recommended in all respects.

Stayed at this Inn for three nights and were not disappointed with a thing. Location is amazing - you are surrounded by acres of trees offering trails for the hikers and in the winter, cross country skiing. Superb restaurant offering a very pleasant menu. Dan - the sommelier(although he would never wish to be called that) knows so much about wine he will delight you with his suggestions. Katja the Innkeeeper is just wonderful and has such an eye for detail to ensure your stay is as perfect as it can be. Peggy on the front desk does an amazing job throughout your stay and David, the chef is responsible for my expanding waistline! Can't thank everyone enough for a wonderful retreat in the Vermont countryside. Everyone should go here for an escape from civilisation!

My wife and I stayed at Windham Hill Inn for 4 nights. The purpose of the trip was to do downhill snow skiing in Southern Vermont. So, this was the base location for our snow ski excursions.

We stayed in the White Barn, which is about a 200 foot walk from the main inn building where the restaurant is located and most of the rooms are located. I have never stayed in the main lodge, but it looks like, in general, the rooms in the White Barn are larger. They are certainly newer. The inside entrance to the White Barn still looks like a classic rural Vermont barn. But, once you enter the room, it looks like brand new. The North Loft room, where we stayed, was really nice. It had a very comfortable king bed. There is a gas fireplace which was very inviting at this cold (really cold!!) time of year. There also was a lot of closet space. The bathroom was in a sunken area off of the main bedroom. It had a nice Jacuzzi tub and a nice modern shower. Overall, we loved the room. You could occasionally hear noise from other guests, including talking in the adjacent room (muffled, but audible). It was never a problem, but just noticed.

The food was very good, as expected from a member of Relais & Chateaux. It also appeared that many of the guests were multiple return customers. You could tell this from how the staff greeted them. They were familiar faces. I can see the attraction to coming back here repeatedly, so that does not surprise me.

Breakfast is included with the room rate. It was consistently good. The dinner service in the evening was also very good. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The innkeeper, Katja, is just a sweetheart. She is originally from Germany. You can tell that all of the return guests just love her. You can see why. She is charming and really helpful. She is a real live walking advertisement for Windham Hill Inn.

As a base for a downhill ski excursion, it worked well. We actually skied one day up at Okemo, which is about 45 minutes north. So, that is not so close, but certainly doable. The other days were at Stratton, about a 30 minute drive away. Mount Snow is also about 30 minutes away, but we did not ski there on this trip. Many of the other guests at Windham Hill, while we were there, were doing cross-country skiing. There are many places to do that in the area. We would love to come back sometime to Windham Hill Inn, maybe in the fall to enjoy those great Vermont fall colors. But, whatever time of year, it looks like you will get a nice room and great food.

My husband and I just returned from a 2-night stay in the Meadowlook suite. What a completely lovely experience. Our suite in the barn was spacious but cozy with a fireplace and views of the mountains. The food was delicious. Katja, the innkeeper, is a consummate professional. Dan, the sommelier, made thoughtful and creative suggestions for superb food-wine pairings. We went snowshoeing on the property (snowshoes are available free for the borrowing), read in front of the fire, met other guests, and recharged our batteries. I have no complaints. This place hit the sweet spot. We cannot wait to go back.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Windham Hill Inn and it was a wonderful experience. The Inn is located in a remote secluded area providing the perfect setting for disconnecting from the hustle of our everyday life. The Inn is a wonderful facility with many common area's to sit and enjoy a warm fire and to chat with other guests. All the fireplaces were either lit or prepared to be lit with kindling and wood in place. There is the main Inn building but also a second building also with guest rooms called the White Barn. When entering the White Barn the foyer maintains the original rustic feel of an old barn but of course very clean and neat. Once beyond the foyer the White Barn has wonderful common area's and some very special guest rooms and suites. The entire facility is surrounded by many acres of rolling fields and mountains.

We stayed in the Marion Goodfellow loft suite which was so so nice. It is a large suite with a comfortable four post king bed, a lovely warming gas fireplace, sitting areas, private porch and it's own private Cupola atop the 3 story barn! The Cupola with 360 degree views of the fields and mountains has a sitting area which was a great place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. The bathroom was amazing with a funky wall paper, skylight and a nice assortment of shiny silver fixtures and decorations surrounding a large two person soaking tub and sitting area. It was a nice setting to have the bath butler prepare the perfect candle light bath after a full day trekking (8 miles) on the snowy trails around the Inn. Of course everything was extremely clean and well kept.

Likewise the hospitality of Katia the Inn keeper and per staff was equally wonderful. It seemed like Katia, Bruce and the rest of the staff were very observant and one step ahead to provide services that made our stay there a special experience. The restaurant and food were exceptional serving all kinds of freshly prepared specialties. Even breakfast exceeded expectations with fresh made muffins, strawberry Smoothies and choice of dishes all made with local produce. Dinner was amazing with so many special touches and the wine recommendations from Bruce were spot on. Service was perfect and matched the high quality experienced throughout the Inn.

The hiking trails around the Inn were really nice and certainly secluded. While you can take a leisurely walk through the easier trails and fields we greatly enjoy the more rugged remote snow covered terrain. The walk up the river to the waterfall was wonderful, totally secluded and the silence of the forest was deafening.

I think you can probably tell from the above review that we really enjoyed our time at this special Inn.

Room Tip: The loft suites in the White Barn are wonderful!
