“Memorable historic property- bring ear plugs”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

This is a fine historic property in the heart of town, close to the Amtrak station and within walking distance of bars and several good places to eat. Staff is friendly and eager to please. The rooms are simply decorated; they could use a refresh but are very clean and in keeping with the historic theme of this hotel. Many of the rooms are actually two separate bedrooms (with doors that close) that share a bath, a great idea if you don't want to share a bedroom with a traveling companion, or if parents and kids want separate rooms. Bring earplugs; the noise from the train is part of the problem, but more significantly the walls are thin and the floorboards in the halls creek with every step. Prices are reasonable, but given the simplicity of the rooms and the quirks of this place in general, are basically on par with what you get. All in all, you'll enjoy and remember your stay here (in a good way) if you keep the above in mind.

The neighborhood is "gritty" and felt a bit unsafe. The hotel's parking lot is very sketchy. Rooms (I was in 2) smelled like mildew and had stained ceilings. Carpets were old and stained. I found dead yellow jackets on the floor of one room. There were orange stains and hair in the shower. The only thing that could have made this worse would be a chalk outline on the floor!

We're sorry for your overall evaluation of White River Junction village in which we are located. This railroad river town is not boutiqued but is also not the least bit unsafe.
We are also as disappointed as you were in our overall condition. We know it is very well kept because we who work here tend to it with care every day. We certainly are not new and we do have our quirks. Again, we're sorry that you did not find us more appealing than your review states.

To start Hotel Coolidge is so cute. I came to the hotel with my school for a performance. The people at the hotel greeted us with open arms and welcomed us to the town. The Hotel as a great atmosphere and great people especially the owner Dave. He so full of life and just a great person to be around really made our stay at the hotel even better. Breakfast at the hotel as simple and cute. There fruit, warm bagels, muffins and sometimes waffle with maple syrup from one of the local farms. With being the in historical area there where many things to do and a person staying there i felt very immersed into the towns culture. This hotel is amazing and cant wait to come back.

We stayed for two nights at the Hotel Coolidge and found it to be a comfortable, clean hotel with a friendly staff. I prefer staying at a hotel that has some character rather than at a chain hotel with none but with a comparable price, and I appreciate the historical significance of the Hotel Coolidge. This was our second visit there and I will be staying again when we visit the area.

.

Room Tip: We had a king suite which was very comfortable for a couple of nights stay.

I just returned from a visit to White River Jct., Vt. where I stayed at the Hotel Coolidge in downtown White River. Took in a musical at the nearby Opera House and visited with cast and musicians after the performance in the hotel lobby. What a neat place to relax, have a glass of wine by the fire and talk about the performance. You won't have that experience at the local highway motels.

I have stayed here several times and as always found it very comfortable and convenient. The owners are really connected to the community and have always been quick to recommend places of interest in the Upper Valley.

My room was warm and inviting. There is off street parking which is very convenient and many attractions are within walking distance of the hotel. While there I noticed two business groups gathering in separate function rooms so that might be something to consider if you have needs for a business meeting site.

I will be back there again.

Room Tip: I have stayed in several of their rooms and found all to be suitable.

Intriguing layout, fascinating historical touches (the weighted hall doors are really cool), comfortable (except for some of the heating, which can be radiator cranky), and friendly without being fake - plus you can walk comfortably to all of WRJ's weirdness even when it's 5 below. Staying in a down town historical site like this is part of the whole vacation; who would chooe cookie-cutter boxes by the highway?

Unless you are a Youth Hostel or Elder Hostel stayer, don't bother with this hotel. The central heat radiators are rarely turned on, but when they are the clanging and banging will get to you. This is a mid 19th century hotel whose last major upgrades may have been hot water and central heat. The hotel caters to Hostel members and people who are in transition and need an inexpensive place to stay. This is not the kind of place that recalls its glorious past; rather, it retains a 1930's look because there is not enough money to make upgrades. It has a target market; I just wasn't in it.
