This was our first visit here but we were with family that frequent the restaurant. Gary, our waiter was super helpful and his suggestions were wonderful. The meal was fabulous and the kitchen did not mind any changes that we made.

Food networks and cooking channels have raised the bar in areas of what American restaurant consumers expect in dining out (food presentation, creativity and preparation etc). The Tip Top Cafe is no exception to this phenomena.

The decor of the restaurant is contemporary: plain and simple and not distracting to the diner.

I had the shrimp and sausage gumbo. Served with a generous portion of shrimp and sausage on a bed of dirty rice. This entree was spicy but not overly powerful to my palate.

My wife had yellow fin tuna also served on a bed of rice. The tuna was prepared rare, as it should. The portion again was generous.

Our dining partners ordered Hanger Steak rare and Meat Loaf. The steak was served as ordered. It was tender and the sauce was flavorful, but not thick and fatty.

The meat loaf was grilled, cut thick and served with mashed potatoes and gravy. A nice variation to this "comfort food" staple.

All entries were moderately priced. Food quality was very good. Service was excellent.

Have been here several times during the past two years attending baking courses at King Arthur Flour. Focus is on fresh, local ingredients and exceptional service. Decent wine list, a joy to be here.

We were there opening night years ago, and we've been dipping into it for years. Now Tip Top has come of age. Wonderful thoughtful menu. Inventive preparation of meats and fish. Extraordinary root vegetables (at least in this early Spring time). Perfecting some of their original offerings such as meatloaf, and cod. (Not your Mom's!). Great Rum Drinks. TIp Top has improved its environment many times over with the efforts for sound reduction. You can have a private intimate dinner while sitting just a few feet from the next table. Cautionary:You are not alone- Reserve! As White River Junction has grown, culturally, that is, there's a huge tradition now of going to Tip Top, early, before the Theatre.

My husband and I stopped in here for a quick lunch midweek while driving up to spend a few days in Burlington. The restaurant is in a fun and quirky building with a few other businesses. I ordered the "Half & Half", half of a sandwich (I picked their delicious pastrami Reubens. ) and a bowl of soup (I chose the day's special - potato leek. Very good!) and was quite pleased with my food. The soup was delicious, very flavorful and creamy. The sandwich came with house-made slaw on grilled sourdough with nice lean pastrami and was quite good. The atmosphere was slightly refined but not unapproachable and the prices were reasonable. Our server, Gary, was very personable and attentive, even giving us some advice on a good scenic drive on our way. If we end up back in the area we'd definitely stop in again!
