The White House Inn

New York Times hailed White House Inn as "one of the ten most romantic places in the world.” They’re spot on. From our hosts Phil and Stacy, Zorro the dog to the romantically appointed rooms (ours had a 4 poster bed, working fireplace and Jacuzzi tub) plus the best dining in the area this was one of the best weekend getaways we’ve had in a long while.

Our friends and I have enjoyed many dinners in their beautifully appointed and staffed dining room but we will definitely be back to stay at the inn again. Have a relaxing massage at the Serenity spa upstairs at the inn. Laura does the best hot stone/ deep tissue massage. It’s rare to find such a fabulous massage therapist at a resort.

Situated 10 minutes from Mt Snow and near the Deerfield River there’s plenty to do in year round. After a day of skiing people were lined up on the big hill in front of the Inn to go tubing.

We had a great time. We'll be back next year.

My wife & I met in Wilmington 36 years ago. Well, we took a trip down memory lane to revisit Wilmington and felt what better place to go than "The White House". We were not disappointed!

The owner greeted us and willingly showed us some options we had as far as room accommodations were concerned. We stuck with our original choice, a room with a king sized bed & wood-burning fireplace. Despite some fierce snow/ice storms before & during our arrival, the Inn was warm and welcoming. We had a very nice dinner at one of the 2-3 places open in Wilmington for 2 nights for dinner, then went back to the room, lit a wood fire in the fireplace and reminisced. We had dinner at The White House our final night & it was great!!

Because of the severe weather conditions that existed & were predicted to persist, we had the entire place practically to ourselves. Everything inside was immaculate & well appointed. For a few days at the Inn we enjoyed a wonderful country breakfast every morning [which is included with the price of the room]. There were wood-burning & pellet-burning stoves going all during the daylight & evening hours throughout the common areas. The atmosphere was very warm, cozy & comfortable. We played pool, swam in the indoor pool, & used the steam bath. Went "tubing' on the big hill there.

Loved our stay-we would willingly go back [you'll meet Zorro, no kidding]- T & K

Good food, friendly staff. Driveway and walk ways needed to be better plowed and sanded. Difficult driving.

My family of five were to dine at the White House this past Saturday evening. We had 8pm reservations but they were backed up due to previous late arrivals due to the snow. They offered to sit us at a table in the bar area which was actually very nice. An hour later I went to the manager to complain - I believe that he was the same British fellow that other posts refer to. He apologized and our waitress appeared. Service continued to be lax. My 18 year old son went to the bar to help himself to the water pitcher when all the staff were gone for 15 mins. Entrees were not served until almost 10pm - more than 2 hours after we sat down. I later learned that Richard Gere was in the main dinning room. The staff was so star struck that the entire Inn became non-functional. I guess Richard's money was greener than mine. The manager never came by to see how we were doing. We were not offered a discount, or free after dinner drink or desert - how do you charge near NYC prices and behave this way in a small town. The food however was outstanding. We focused on the food quality in order to salvage the evening but inside it really bothered me the way we were treated. I read some of the recent reviews and this lack of customer service seems common at the White House and I will probably not return. Go to Ravelo in Dover for a great meal with great service. Where is Poncho's Wreck when you need them? Long time visitors to the are will understand this last comment.

I have to say that although the website would lead you believe otherwise, this was the worst guest house/hotel i have ever stayed in.

When we arrived, we werent greeted at all, we had to hunt around to find anybody that looked like they worked there, who luckily did. The scruffily dressed teenager handed us our room key and pointed in the direction we should go to try to find our room. Shocking!!

The room was tatty, with what i can only describe as cling film on the windows because they were so poorly maintained. The bed linen was stained, the bed valances had clearly not been changed for months, the bedroom furniture was damaged and stained and the room was cold. The bathroom had wall paper peeling at every single joint, the toilet cystern was broken in three places and the shower head was so blocked up that you had to dance around the dirt stained bath tub to try to catch water droplets.

We were extremely tired on our arrival, and when we engaged in conversation that evening with what turned out to be one of the owners, who i have to say i honestly thought was the local handyman because he was dressed so scruffily, we did not bring our concerns to his attention.

However, the following morning, we decided that the hotel was way off what we was looking for and was way, way over priced for what was offered we decided to approach the owner, who happened to be English incidentally, and offered our explanation as to why we were leaving and cancelling our weeks booking. I understand that this would be a financial blow, but.....well, whatever!....however, rather than being disapointed but understanding he was rude, abusive and commented that he couldnt see what the problems were all about and that he was...
..."sick and tired of jumped up Brits coming here, finding fault and leaving thinking that they can get away with not paying"

We did pay for our one night, as that was the only money he was going to be getting out of us, and we paid our HUGE bar bill.....prices i have never seen anywhere before!! However, he did threaten that he had my credit card details and would get the $800 he thought he was owed, therefore necessitating me cancelling my credit card.

In short, i would not stay at this hotel every again, nor would i suggest it to anyone else. The owners have bought a property, with fantastic potential, however, you need to address the maintenance issues and your attitudes! Oh, and by the way, a wash and shave and a clean set of clothes would be a damned good start!

As we arrived from our long drive from NYC, we saw the White house inn on the hill and was amazed by how lovely it looked. We checked in and was showed to our room (room 6) which at a quick glance was lovely!!! Until I notice our sheets were dirty and that the wall paper was peeling off the Walls in the bathroom.... And for a $200 room a night this was simply shocking.. The next morning we decided to check out and find another place to stay... Beware of the manager he will argue the pants off with you. I'm thinking constructive criticism does not bode well with him

Last year, when we were married at the White House Inn, we decided it needed to be our anniversary destination as well. So, one year later, that's what we did. The Innkeepers were great, recommended the suite room and it was perfect. Dinner was wonderful :) as well. OH, and the breakfast....excellent, thank you Stacey!
