“Peaceful and relaxing retreat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at Shearer Hill Bed and Breakfast on our way home from an appointment in New Hampshire. It is located in a beautiful, secluded area. Our room was very clean and cozy, with a wonderful view of the fields and woods. It was so quiet and dark that we slept wonderfully. No need to worry about light pollution here!

Bill and Patti are wonderful hosts and make you feel right at home. We did not want for anything. The baked apples for breakfast are truly amazing and unique! We enjoyed walking along the country roads and feeding apple scraps to the friendly cows.

We did not get any cell reception, but there is internet available downstairs if you need it. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded retreat where you can unplug from technology, get away from constant lights and noise, and be refreshed, this is the place for you!

My husband was in Wilmington to do the Tough Mudder on Mt. Snow and we stayed at Shearer Hill Farm which was about 20 minutes away from the event. My daughter and I planned on staying behind while he attended the event so it was nice to arrive and find a beautiful B&B on scenic grounds. We were welcomed by Patti and Bill who are very laid back and accommodating hosts. They were very good with our 5 year old daughter who is outgoing and gregarious and loves to get involved with the conversation and happenings wherever we go.

The room was comfortable, spacious and clean, with a king bed for us and a day bed for my daughter. We didn't have to ask for anything. We had little to no cellular reception but there was Wi-Fi in the house. We were also able to set a time for breakfast, which was a baked apple, eggs and bagels, cereal, juice, coffee and tea, and homemade granola.

After breakfast we accompanied Bill to feed apple peelings to the cows grazing in the field behind the house, and were surprised to find that a calf had been born the night before! Bill, who has a lot of experience with calves, went and checked her out with my daughter, and he even asked he to help him name her! We spent the rest of the morning visiting with the newborn (Rose bud) and enjoying the hammock. My daughter also spent some time watching TV in the common room and playing with some antique blocks that had been Patti's moms.

Patti and Bill were around taking care of things, and it was a very relaxed and enjoyable morning. My husband returned from the Tough Mudder and we left with fresh chocolate chip scones in our hands.

Originally we had selected the B&B because it was affordable and close to Mt. Snow so it went way above and beyond our expectations; the trip was move than we had hoped for and we definitely plan on returning again when next visiting Vermont!

Room Tip: There are three rooms in the main house and another three in an adjacent building. We stayed in the...

Just returned from our first visit there. This place is great! Our rooms were very clean and well kept. Breakfast was delicious, and we all loved feeding the cows! Thank you Patty and Bill for making us feel like family the minute we walked through the door. We are looking forward to our next stay with you!

My husband randomly chose Shearer Hill Farms for our first two night getaway in 12 years!! We couldn't have been more pleased. The hospitality of Patti and Bill was amazing and the accommodations were cozy, quaint and charming. We loved relaxing in the common area, gazing out the large sunny windows at the picturesque Vermont landscape. We also loved that it was only a few minutes from town, where we found some delicious restaurants. Nothing could compare, however, to the breakfasts we enjoyed at Shearer Hill. The baked apples were a divine breakfast treat and their own Maple syrup is the sweetest we've had. We cannot wait to return!

Patti and Bill were not here this weekend but their niece & nephew were in charge and they were great! Everything was so nice! They are very friendly and helpful.
The B & B is very comfortable from the rooms to the parlor to the dining room with delicious breakfast!
The grounds are so peaceful! We loved the cows! It was very nice to walk around on the property. The B & B is off the beaten path but very easy to find and it was quite nice to be away from things.
I would love to go back soon!

Bill and Patti are among the best hosts I have ever encountered! They both went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and welcome. The accommodations were spacious and quiet. The setting was a perfect break from the noise and busyness of everyday life. Although they worked hard on the farm and in the kitchen, they always took time to stop and chat and to see if I needed anything. The breakfast was not only beautiful, but delicious, with plenty of maple syrup! I will definitely be back for another stay!

Excellent place to stay in Southern Vermont.
Highly recommend it. Rooms are very clean, beds are comfy, breakfast is delicious !!! Baked apples topped with ice cream :) is part of your breakfast.
Sip your tea in the front porch while enjoying the Vermont view.
Don't forget to get one of Patty's soy candles. My husband and daughter loves the pumpkin pie one.
