we live in hot, dry texas and spent a great weekend in vermont and new hampshire. we came across the viking quite by accident and are very glad we stopped. the price was right and the location left us near other sites we wanted to visit. the rooms were clean and the big porch very nice to sit out on in the evening. the t.v got good reception and the owners were quite pleasant to deal with. we plan to return for what new englanders call 'leaf season' and will certainly make the viking our home base. wish we had some down home motels like this in texas.

Room Tip: get a room on the second level, porch is great, more privacy.

We found the Viking Motel at the end of a long day of driving. We checked out the room, and found it to be basic but clean. The place isn't fancy, but the price was reasonable for the accommodation. The bed was firm and comfortable and the flat screen TV worked well. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The first thing to say is that the lady who checked us in said they were still recovering from the flood, by which I think she meant Hurricane Irene in September 2011. And the place did look like it had been hit. So I was sympathetic and happy to bring them some business. But be wary, because our room was a little musty and the bathroom had no ventilation, which probably causes the mildew on the carpet (why is a carpet in the bathroom? Talk about a maintenance nightmare especially with no ventilation.) I couldn't find any way to adjust the heat. Luckily, the weather was warm. On the plus side were the in-room coffee, new flat-screen TV and of course the rates. But when we walked from the parking lot across the little courtyard and there was a puddle from melting snow I couldn't help but think the staff is overwhelmed. In the morning, a couple downstairs rooms were open as guests were leaving or housekeeping was in and I could see in. They did look in better shape, so my guess is some rooms are better than others.
In short, the rates are great but if you can't be assured you'll get a newly renovated room, I'd stay away until they finish their upgrade and repairs.

Room Tip: Ask to get a renovated room.

I am a repeat customer of Viking Motel. The owners, Denise and Hans are delightful and have been in Wilmington for many years. As a result of recent flooding, the rooms are redone or in the process of being redone. The new rooms are very pleasant and absolutely spotless. If you are looking for a comfortable hotel, that is relatively inexpensive this is the place to go in the Mt. Snow area. While it is not high luxury, it is comfortable (great mattresses), clean, and the owners are really nice. By way of example, I generally ask for late checkout so that I can come back to the hotel to shower and change and they have always said no problem.
I recommend it fully.

The staff is both rude and indecent. I wouldn't suggest this motel to my worst enemy. Go elsewhere or be prepared for disappointment.

Indecent? What does this mean? If you are the gentleman that stayed a few weeks ago and was driving the BMW, you should have addressed your concerns at the front office, and they would have been addressed. The cost of a room is in line with the market, so one star is unfair. The location is within walking distance to downtown, so two stars is unfair, as we have no control over your final destination. The room you stayed in was reconstructed within the last couple of months (new walls, new carpeting & tile, new furnishings, etc), so all is clean and like new. Therefore, the one and two stars you gave there are also unfair. Regarding the service, again, you did not make any issues known to us, otherwise, we certainly would have made it right.

Our mini-vacation to Vermont was great. The owners are very friendly and considerate and the rooms are great for tired feet and backs. I would recommend this little gem to anyone. Give it a try and you'll be happy that you stayed here.

This charming motel provides all the basic needs a traveler requires at a price that does not hurt your wallet. The service and friendliness of the staff is a true representation of 'good old Vermont'. The newly remodeled rooms provide comfort and the new flat screen TV's are great for those cold winter nights.

If you are looking not only for a great bargain but a great room...you will find it at the Viking!
