I live right near this huge mountain. Great view of the area. I never get tired of driving up the winding road. Highest spot in the area.

There are hikes of an hour to a day.

The longest trails include the Windsor Trail and the Weathersfield Trail.

Get a map from the State Park ranger.

We mapped out a circuit including the summit from the parking lot at the top end of the road.

It was sufficiently challenging. Not recommended for young or the feeble.

Wear sturdy footgear and bring hiking poles.

Bring a map and water.

Drove up to the top car park with one of my sons to walk the 0.7 miles to the top. As we started the walk it was easy but got harder as we went along and the short journey took longer than expected and seemed more than the distance stated. We enjoyed the walk though and the views are great up there, we came down the alternative route via the hang glider trail. Make sure you've got the right footwear on and bring a drink with you.

There is an auto road you can take to top and then walk around but I hiked up from the Weathersfield trailhead. It was 2.9 miles to the summit. This route passes by two waterfalls. They weren't flowing too much since it is summer but still cool. Depending on time of year could be slippery so be careful in that area. The hike itself had a few great openings to see the view while going up. It is rocky and boulder path to follow and nothing too steep where had to scramble with hands. The view from summit is beautiful but make sure to climb the lookout tower. Breathtaking panoramic views!

$3 per person is a steal for the experience you'll gain from this short mountain road drive and countless number of hikes. Take a short trip up the Summit Trail to a well maintained observation tower with views of the vast Vermont and New Hampshire landscape. Wonderful photo opportunities and even the chance to see some wildlife (a juvenile bear was spotted on the way down the mountain during this trip).
