Description: As old as the hills . . . The Peaks of Otter have drawn settlers and travelers to the region for more than 8,000 years. The community whose vestiges remain to be explored today had its beginning in 1766 when Thomas Wood arrived from Pennsylvania. The wife of one of Wood’s descendants would open her home as the area’s first lodging for travelers in 1834. By the late 1800s, Peaks of Otter would be home to some 20 families, a school, a church, and a resort hotel. In the mid 1900s, the location was selected for special attention as the National Parks Service developed recreation and service areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Abbott Lake was constructed and the Peaks of Otter Lodge opened in 1964.Today, we invite you to be part of the future of this storied natural and cultural destination as it continues to attract visitors and travelers in the 21st century.

“Don't waste your money”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

We stayed at this lodge while travleing the Blue Ridge Parkway. I had read many negative reviews about the restaurant, but thought they were probably exaggerated. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is overpriced and the quality is poor. We arrived at 7:30pm for the seafood buffet. There were several empty serving dishes in the buffet that were NEVER refilled. My husband asked if there were any potatoes coming out since that was one of the empty dishes. He was told that they would be out in 8 minutes. But, they never arrived. They never refilled any of the empty dishes. When we mentioned this on our way out to someone who appeared to be a manager, she first tried to blame it on a waitress and then said it was too late to bring out more food. At 7:30 it's too late??? The table behind us ordered from the menu and only 1/2 of their food came out. They ended up taking the rest of their order in a doggy bag, because it took so long for the rest of their order to come out. They were also told it woudl be 8 minutes. The dessert buffet was the same story. Empty dishes that did not get refilled. There was not one piece of dessert to eat.

There were plenty of salad choices, but $80 for two is too much to pay for salad.

We left the restaurant and headed for the lounge which is suppose to be open until 10:00pm. At 8:50pm, we were told that it was closed because they had to clean up. The same woman seemed annoyed that we were even asking if it was open.
The next night we decided to eat at the bar. The food, again, was barely edible, but the bar-tender, Stephanie, was extremely pleasant and made up for the lack of good food.

There are too many good restaurants in Bedford to waste your money here.

“Beautiful View, Great Food and Excellent Service”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

Everything about our dining experience at the Peaks restaurant was memorable. With window seating overlooking the lake, we enjoyed "veggie burgers" and a delicious cobbler, with excellent service by our waitress, Alexis. Good value! Great View!

“Much better than expected!”
Reviewed 11 May 2014 via mobile

I had read so many reviews that were not good that I was nervous! We came here with my parents today on Mother's Day and it was really good!! It was crowded and the staff was very busy, but everyone was really nice, food was great (the buffet was refilled often), service was great considering it was a holiday, and the view was gorgeous!

“Good and Slow”
Reviewed 19 April 2014 via mobile

This was our first try at this newly reopened restaurant under new management.
Restaurant was cleaner, windows were replaced and it appeared that the interior had been repainted.
Now, the lunch menu was over priced and the service was slow, slow and slow.
Hostess immediately seated us at a window side table which was nice. She said that our waitress would be right over.
We had time to memorize the short menu before finally being waited on, over 10 minutes.
Food was good, cooked well and was presented well.
My hamburger was $9.95 and my wife's salmon sandwich was good at $10.95. Waitress did say that nothing as far as condiments were on the burger after she brought it so you needed to have her bring anything like mayo to your table. This slow speed seemed typical since other patrons were having to flag down their server just to get the check.
No, I know you are thinking that this must have been a packed restaurant causing the slow service, but no, when we were being seated only three tables had patrons. By the time we were trying to leave, about seven tables with three trying to leave. Service was poor, never checking on tea or soda refills or asking for dessert requests. Was good just to finally get out.

“Good View & Prime Ribs/Sad & Pricey Seafood Buffet”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

Stayed At PEAKS OF OTTER LODGE & Ate @ The Restaurant (The Only One In The Area) For B, L, & D. The Lake & Mountain View Was Beautiful, The Prime Rib Was Good, But The $40+ Seafood Buffet Was Too Costly For What You Got.

Unfortunately The Management Seemed To Prize It's Static Policy Over & Above The Comfort of It's Guests. The Restaurant's Time Frames Didn't Accommodate Those of It's Guests - With Large Gaps In Between Meals, Where The Dining Room Remained Completely Empty.
