James River House
Ranked #2 of 3 Buchanan B&B and Inns

Right on the main street in Buchanan, VA. Five of us were traveling from Montana to SC via the Blue Ridge Parkway. Friends from VA rode out and met us at the James River House. We had plenty of space on the first and second floors. Each couple had their own room and bathroom. We did not need the bunk room in the basement, but could have rented it if more of our friends had joined us. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The lines were fluffy and inviting. The kitchen was stocked with many extras. We sat on the front porch for most of the evening visiting. What a great place to meet up with friends.

The folks at the James River House appreciate the history of Buchanan, the western terminus of the old James River and Kanawha Canal. They can point one to the remains of the canal basin and the locks on the river. As you can tell from their web site, they also arrange kayak and canoe trips on the river. The rooms and public area of the Inn are quite comfortable and the price more than reasonable. Note that it is not a Bed & Breakfast, but they do have coffee and the Fountain at the drug store down the block serves a good breakfast.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jackson River Room, at the back, with a bit of a view of the river and, more import...
