“Sea Gate B&B Cape Charles”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

Spotlessly clean and comfortable, this B&B is four houses from the beach in the quiet little town of Cape Charles. This is an area in which to relax with beaches, golf and little villages along the water all within easy reach. Chris is one of the best hosts you will ever meet, he encourages guests to enjoy themselves and has wide ranging and lively interest in many topics. There are several good places to eat in town. If we were in the area, we would stay here again for the fun!

Chris is a wonderful host, and he makes a delicious breakfast. The accommodations are very comfortable, and the sun porch is a great place to begin a day on the Bay (the Chesapeake Bay and Cape Charles Beach are less than a block away). Don't be surprised if you accidentally pass an entire afternoon rocking and reading in the bay breeze on the big front porch. Just a two block mosey from the shops and restaurants on Mason Avenue.

If you just want to "get away"... step-out of the crush of daily life... and have Time Slow Down so you can just have some JOYin your days, then make a reservation with Chris at the Sea Gate in Cape Charles. It isn't about how much things cost, (very reasonable) it is about the simple joy of lots of sky, and the Bay, smiles, and being treated everywhere as though you have been a neighbor and friend for years. The Sea Gate is the perfect place to be on your own, or not, depending on what you need. Chris is a glorious host, intelligent, respectfull, and an adventure on his own! Sit down with him for a glass of wine, and it is a TRIP! : ) Sea Gate and Cape Charles are a harmonious antidote for just about everything we endure these days. Just GO. As a single female traveler, it was perfect, and I can only imagine how wonderful it might be to share this place with friends. Thank you Chris, for all of your efforts, kindness, nimble wit, and fun! The only way this could have been better- is if I lived there!

Room Tip: Rose Room is just lovely, though the bed was a tad squeeky. The 2nd floor shared porches, and refrig...

The best Bed and Breakfast experience we have ever had. Chris is a wonderful host and most accommodating in all requests. Total access to all of his facility. Most enjoyable. Cape Charles is a very quaint town. We were there for a wedding. He does take children which most did not.

Room Tip: The best experience we have ever had. Chris is a wonderful host and will go out of his way to accom...

If you are looking for ritzy, luxurious and fancy this is not your kind of place. Cape Charles is not meant to be exciting. If you choose to visit you are hoping for peaceful relaxation with no stress. Staying at SEA GATE makes it even easier to unwind. Toss a host like Chris in the mix and even someone hyper like me totally chills. The Rose Room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. I thought I would be uncomfortable because this room only has a half bath. You have to shower in the full bath across the hall. This was no inconvenience whatsoever! Our room was far brighter and roomier than the rooms with the full baths. The furnished sunroom adjoining our room was an added bonus. The house is roomy and filled with interesting art and antiques from all over the world. Everything around you is beautiful but not fancy or stuffy. There is plenty of room to spread out. The front porch is furnished with rocking chairs that beckon you to sit down, read, pet Mr. Kitty or just listen to the birds singing all around you. There is a sunroom at one end that opens out to a shady deck and patio. Chris sincerely makes it easy for you to feel right at home. We have stayed in many excellent hotels in many wonderful cities and had great experiences. Sea Gate is just as wonderful in a more relaxed down to earth way. Chris is interesting, quick witted, well read, intelligent, charming and a totally unpretentious host. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Rose Room is very sunny. If you like sleeping late choose The Blue Room.

You know how you sometimes stay in a B and B and the owner is kind of, well, let's say eccentric, and you feel like you've entered some Twilight Zone episode, and you might never be allowed to leave? That isn't Chris. He is the finest B and B host I have ever encountered. He will talk to you for hours or leave you alone, and he seems to always know what you need, and if he doesn't and you ask him for something, it will be supplied. My partner and I stayed in the truly lovely Rose Room, with screened patio off to one side, for four days, and felt like we lived there. If you are in Cape Charles, which is a lovely, relaxing destination, stay here.

Room Tip: We like the Rose Room. It is half bath, which I usually hate, but the shower across the hall was nev...

One does feel at home here, with nice public spaces for sitting, including a sunny Florida room, breakfast room and wide front porch. The location is ideal: the fourth house from the beach, and just a couple blocks to the main-street businesses. But the bedrooms are not the best. Ours was very small, and while there was plenty of drawer space, there was no closet. The mattress was uncomfortable. Some bedrooms must share a bathroom. Compared with my other B&B experiences, and I have had many, these breakfasts were just average. Parking is on the street, so you can't always park right in front of the house, which can be inconvenient when you are unloading or loading baggage. The energetic host is a fount of information about the area and is quite helpful.
